stunning bit of blasphemy Blasphemy? Are we back in the Middle Ages? Are we a part of the Muslim world?
The giants of Western thought have been challanging the truth of the Bible for what?...500 years? We're been through religious wars which splintered the Catholic Church. If your faith has survived those challanges why should you care what a movie and its creators say?

Blasphemy? Are we back in the Middle Ages? Are we a part of the Muslim world? Did you think blasphemy was a fad that disappeared with the Renaissance? Granted, the charge does not enjoy the popularity it once had, but the whole progressive "we're beyond all that now" is the spirit of the age of modernism.

Everyone is entitled to his beliefs, certainly including McKellen. But it is simply stating a fact to observe that from a Judaeo-Christian perspective, calling the Bible 'fiction' is a quintessential act of blasphemy.

It's still blasphemy. The difference is, our society (and you, apparently) have decided that blasphemy against Christianity isn't that big a deal.
You'll remember, however, that blasphemy against Islam is still a huge deal--particularly among liberal media "elites" and academics. Can you name for me the last member of that crowd who trashed Islam in such a public way?
Thought so...
