Maybe they'd better hold off on that. While i'd appreciate being able to use Windows XP_64, many utilities such as Macromedia Flash have no 64 bit version for either Windows or _nix. That gets to be a real pain in the @$$. i have to go to Konqueor to view flash content in Linux. With my present Windows XP installation (XP_32), i'm fine, but to upgrade to take advantage of my AMD64 processor, i'd be screwed.
It'll be like when they came out with Win32, there was a thunk16.dll that mapped 16-bit programms to run on the 32-bit system.
At my place of employment, we are getting hardware upgrades in a couple of months. The software that I use runs better on a 64 bit machine. But the 64 bit machine won't run MS apps and Lotus Notes. So I have to have 2 machines sitting on my desk. What a pain! Two monitors, 2 keyboards, 2 mice. What a frigging joke. I am not looking forward to it.
