Can you imagine if that Beasely goal had not been offside? Down 10 guys to 9, no team with 9 men has ever scored in the WC ...

I jumped outta my chair and yelled "Goooooaaaal" at the top of my lungs.

Then I saw the offside flag. :(

I think we are both on the same page. I'm thinking does Buffon get to this ball if McBride stays in line with the defender and remains offside?

It looks like he gets part of the ball but I'm wondering would he only get a touch on it before it reaches goal?

I was screaming too before I heard them take it back. Yes I was screaming.

No big deal, we've seen the US girl about 400 replies ago.

I did too. I hit the ceiling as a matter of fact. Literally. There is now a black mark from where the remote scratched the ceiling that will remind me of that moment forever. The sad thing is that if McBride had been three feet to the left that goal probably would have stood.

I just replayed it on Tivo and I don't think Buffon would have saved it. Beasley put too much on it and it looks like he was screened more by his own defender than McBride.

Buffon is great. He did get a hand on it screened by McBride.
I can't say he wouldn't have gotten more without the screen.

But it's haunting me. That and a few other plays. But that one more than any.

Spain looked really impressive. They manhandled Ukraine and scored what I think is the goal of the tournament with Puyol doing some incredible work to get the ball to Torres (?) for the finish.

France looks like they aren't going to be able to score again this world cup. Cheer for South Korea tomorrow. :)

Yeah I saw them. France played like a nation of people who don't like each other. Spain got off to a quick start and benefited from a ref who destroyed half the game just like the ref today.

If you haven't noticed, we're in Team USA party mode.

The Koreans will take care of the French tomorrow.

There's one important thing to be gleaned from that play though, and this is something that I had my coach drill into me when I was playing way back when: Good things happen when you shoot. I think in the CZE game Beasley would have layed a square ball off to his right and another scoring chance would have gone a begging. I'm sure Arena hammered that point home to the lads before this match.

Just curious, where'd you get that screen shot? What network is it from?

Just saw Tony Meola on the post game MLS Red Bulls game. He said that Arena is absolutely great before a game and at halftime.

I have no idea what he said but now we're all wondering what would have happened if McBride wasn't in an interference offside area on the shot.

Damn.

Tony "Near Post" Meola huh? I hear he's making a comeback. What a shame he picked the end of his career to get a work ethic. Such a likeable guy too. Wasn't there some talk that he might actually make the 23 man roster for this world cup or am I imagining things?

I found it on a soccer forum. Not sure what network it is. Probably some European TV channel.
