As the presumed facts initially associated with the Duke lacrosse case have melted away, those on campus who aggressively condemned the lacrosse players have found themselves in an uncomfortable position. While a few columnists (such as David Brooks and Nicholas Kristof) have revised their opinions in light of the Coleman Committee report and the recently released prosecution documents, no one at Duke has publicly done so. A small minority have ignored the new material, and even leveled new charges against the lacrosse players. But most still condemn the lacrosse players, though now with a focus on issues relating to alcoholacting as if their earlier critiques, which centered on allegations of the players alleged racism or sexism, or insinuations about the likelihood of rape, never occurred. This shifting of the goalposts is at best intellectually dishonest, and at worst shameful.
and others who my addled brain can't dredge up at the moment - ping!
My advice to kids going to school at Duck university would be to start looking for alternatives. Durham NC strikes me as a hostile environment.
"Facts? Facts? I'm Mike Nifong, I don' need no steenkin' facts."
Yep. Mike Nifong thought this was a "win-win" for him by using this case as leverage in the primaries. Now it is a "lose-lose". Drop the case and the blacks take to the streets, or take it to trial and watch the DA get devoured.
I vote for B.
What's the court hearing this coming week re Reede about?
Cry wolf too many times, and you end up being eaten by your own lies.
Ping me if you find anything else. Thanks in advance.
"have found themselves in an uncomfortable position."
I like to see stupid people in an uncomfortable position!
Thanks so much for the ping!
If it didn't happen, it could have. So, they are guilty. What's so difficult about that?
Me too. Scary, isn't it?

Like what?
I have a vague vague memory of the students around '85 being called "stupid" by someone on the faculty. There was the complaint that all we were interested in was finishing college and making money and not having any intellectual curiosity. If you're not condemning the US and having angst over race, sex, or income level you are an idiot. These lacrosse players piss these guys off because they haven't obviously drunk the Kool-aid.
Rough quote from Bondi (in a whiney, plaintive voice) "We KNOW he made mistakes, but come on, let's be professional in our comments about him."
Have your barf bag handy-- you've been warned.
Thanx, Howlin.
The entire blog entry is a worthwhile read, IME.
Was out pontooning and fishing all day yesterday. Had read a line in a book the night before which kept ringing through my head:
A victim is a victimizer without the weaponrySince the 60s, minorities and females have been granted special license to victimize others. This has played out at colleges as well as via the MSM. Houston Baker (et al) is an ass.
But he plays what all those "especially armed" play -- pretending to be victims while bludgeoning the crap out of others - especially those who have not been "granted" special rights.
It is TIME to do away with "special rights". And long past time for those who were NEVER victims in the past to pretend to play at being ones while they bludgeon the hell out of others by using all these nifty rhetorical spins.
The Duke Boys do not have "special rights". And these bigots running around wearing the "sainted robes" of bullcrap "victimhood" need full exposure as to the pointy hoods they wear while burning crosses upon the psyche of America.
I despise bigots. NO matter what hood they wear.
No one should have "special rights" under the laws of America. It is time to end these.
