This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well, enjoy the ride for both of us. I'll look forward to the pictures tomorrow.
He had his last dose of antibiotics and Trihist yesterday. Had him locked in the barn yesterday and last night in case it rained. Think I might blanket him tonight since it is supposed to be in the 40's.
I hope Pistol won't think I am cheating on him!
I think he'd probably understand that you'd really like to find somebody that's not a 2hr drive away, or at least he should.
I would hate for him to have to fix something someone else messed up on. He has been great getting Jakes feet back up. I have been exceptionally pleased with how he does it.
Did I miss it, or is this the first I've heard that Mark stood you up?
That's too bad, finding a new farrier is more worrisome then trying to find a doctor for yourself.
Becky
It's about the first time he's stood me up, without calling anyway... But he called and left a message while we were on the trail ride... He's coming Monday afternoon... I think my posse helped :~)
Wasn't sure if I'd ever shown you all the nifty mounting place at the trailhead. :~) Makes it easy to get on eh? Cyn appears to be having a nap.
Back on the trail! :~)
No hint of fall color yet down in the wetland parts, it looks like it's thriving from the bit of rain we've gotten and it felt damp and green, more like spring than fall.
Ecurbh led most of the way back today... seems what Cyn needed to take the lead was a $5.99 riding crop. :~) She did really well, a little uncertain in some areas, trotting ahead in others :~)
Here's a little fall color...
A nice moment back at the creek :~)
And back at the trailer! Bay, who has already fuzzed up, got pretty sweaty... Cyn who is still summer slick, barely got warm.
I actually said "ohhhhhhhh" out loud at the creek picture.:')
Very sweet, huh :~)
Great pictures. How did Bay take Cyn in the lead?
He's OK anywhere, he's been in groups of all kinds. He was tired, he didn't mind taking up the rear, really. I intentionally crowded Cyn for awhile, because she fired a foot at Bay at one point when we weren't really too close, and I wanted him to smack her if she did it again, but she didn't. She's probably red ribbon candidate, she's just a little snotty around other horses, not usually Bay, of course, but she took a couple passes at Becky and Mia when they were here, and she of course didn't like Bob's big horse behind her the time we rode with him. She shouldn't have to be crowded, but she needs to get a little better. She gets too nervous in groups.
Yeah, you're right = she's a red ribbon horse. Sounds like she has a space she doesn't like being intruded on. So the kids are off for the winter huh?
,P>
I never got out last weekend - too much company and things happening. I have to work this Saturday but hope for Sunday or Monday, weather permitting.
They're prolly mostly off for the winter, unless we get some snow and decide to play in it or something :~)
When you do go, Sunday or Monday... you know the rules :~)
Rule #2 through Rule #36 - Take the camera :)
~chuckling~ That's right :~)
Holy Cow, I have not been here in a while! Hello, my name is Lemondropkid, and I used to post updates on Barbaro. And then one day I just forgot, or something. I don't know what happened. I got all caught up in the birthday bashes for Dr Richardson and Alex Brown, and in getting a fellow trainer of Michael Matz's outfitted with a new home on The ABC show (dont know if he will get it yet) that I just lost track of everything. Barbaro is a miracle. He is doing so well! He gets out everyday to graze and its week-to-week as to whether he will keep the cast or not. The Doc hesitates to take it off for good because of the laminitis in the left leg. He has about a quarter of an inch of hoof that has regrown, and the bottom of his foot is regrowing too. He is nothing but a miracle. The Doc says he could be in the hospital anywhere from 6 months to one year, depending on the regrowth.
I also just finished getting my AA degree and I got a call from the Secret Service. They said they are going to call me in to go over my application in the future. I really hope I can get it. I sure hope I can keep posting in here in the future. Like I said, I don't know what happened. I jsut got caught up in Barbaro I guess. LOLOL
Oh my gosh! You have such beautiful places to ride.
Congrats on the AA degree, hope the Secret Service is favorably disposed.
Barbaro IS a miracle, isn't he? I think it's his splendid attitude that has made the difference - he doesn't panic, but he doesn't lie down and give up either.
