Hit the pause button, drop the remote, and turn your radio down. It's time for another installment of cards and letters across the television/radio desk:
Judy Carbone: I just read your article on the "Real Oldies" station, and I am so upset. The powers that be never did their part in promoting this station. Tommy Edwards and Larry Lujack are incredible, and I spend a lot of time laughing out loud while sitting in traffic each day. Please tell me that there is a way that we fans can help save this station.
Margaret Suarez: Not again! Every time we find a station that people my age can enjoy, along comes some jerky station boob and takes it off the air. Isn't there something that can be done? Tommy, Larry and all the rest of the really great DJs deserve better than this.
Jack Johnson: Sad, but not surprised to hear of the impending demise of "Real Oldies." The format doesn't have that broad of an appeal to begin with. Then there's the issue of music formats being viable on AM, along with the horrendous signal problem. There might be those who would bash Clear Channel for pulling the plug, but I prefer to give 'em credit for trying. It was a worthy effort -- even if most of the jocks were phoning it in.
Mary Lynn Kenny: I'm not surprised, as Clear Channel has done nothing to improve the signal or promote "Real Oldies." This means that we who love the music are left with an inferior FM choice. This is a sad day for Chicago radio.
Elizabeth Giangrego: Clear Channel has treated us with arrogant disregard, so I doubt that we can mount a campaign to save "Real Oldies." A pox on the house of Clear Channel and the tepid pap that passes for radio these days. The day "Real Oldies" goes off the air is the day I unplug my radio.
Helen Wentland: I want to tell someone how disappointed and sad I am to lose "Real Oldies." It was a good format and filled with well-known and much loved personalities. I was glad to read that Tommy Edwards will be somewhere in the area. I know I will be listening.
Bill Krieger: Clear Channel should give hazard pay to each and every one of the nearly one-eighth million listeners of WRLL-AM (1690). The signal is so weak during the day where I live in Elk Grove, the wife is constantly whining at me for trying to hear through the static. Why can't Clear Channel just try it on a reasonably powerful FM station?
Bobby Carlson: Please tell Clear Channel executives that I have two words for them and they are not "Happy Birthday."

The loss of Real Oldies is keenly felt by it's fans. We have a site: www.realoldiesfans.com and plan a Totally Pointless Protest protest to protest the death of entertaining morning radio.
