What a dear cat! That sounds cute, except for the part about your mom having to have chemo.

Thanks. I have no doubt that G-d sent Josh to be a comfort for her. He was inconsolable when she finally didn't return from a trip to the hospital. He missed "his mommy" and eventually ran away.

I remember this thread. I’m glad Norman is happy and whole.

He’s a good looking kitty.

I agree with you ...no one should feel guilty about putting an animal down. Most true animal lovers do whatever they can in a compassionate way and we need to honor their decisions.

There is no guarantee the cat will survive and no guarantee that he will live another six years or six minutes. Make the cat comfortable and have the vet administer the drugs to bring it's pain to an end. I have had to make this choice with many animals over the years - some of them kids pets. Take some pictures and remember the cat the way it was and forget about the fact that you had to choose. Donate some of the money to the local shelter and when you are ready go get another cat. This one will be different and will start new memories.

I kid you not, that might be a ba-a-a-a-a-ad idea!

On the horns of a dilemma, certainly.

I’ve spent approx $5K on my cats surgeries (he was 8 at the time)after his accident. It was no question and we finally had an excuse to use the credit card.

Hey there—he looks very similar to my Alfie. Alfie too kept getting a urinary blockage and I thought we were going to have to put him down. This was maybe 4 years ago? The vet did the surgery for $300 (gave me a huge discount), removed his male part, and he’s been fine since. I’ll try to post a pic of Alf.

Alfie’s a good-looking kitty. According to my vet, urinary blockages a common problem for neutered tom cats. Norman has had no troubles at all since his surgery, although now I do feed him special food that’s supposed to reduce the chance of any further blockage. He doesn’t act like he misses his male parts, and his personality didn’t change a whit.

Our SimbaCat had that, we paid for the surgery, and he gets the special food. Haven’t had trouble in years, now that there is another cat to keep him active.

Well, in the past year alone, I've spent over $3000 on my late dog Daisy, new puppy, and 14 year old cat.

My vet is a wonderful man and because I've spent so much, let me pay what I could each month. See if your vet is willing to do the same. My guess is, if you're a loyal client, he will.

My male cat had this problem as well. Four blockages in a two year time. The vet said this was the surgery he needed to have. Low and behold, a change of diet (to Science Diet), weight loss, and exercise solved the problem. He lived to be 14 years old.
