HUNTINGTON, New York (July 7) - Benjamin Hendrickson, an Emmy Award-winning actor on the "As the World Turns" soap opera, committed suicide this week with a gunshot to the head, police said.

Suicide? My Lord! I used to watch ATWT, and he was a great actor. He brought a realism and depth to his character that many cannot pull off.

I wonder if he had a serious illness?

It was on in the house I was grew up in and I remember mean rotten Dr. John Dixon back when he was married to Kim.

Heck they probably have adult grandkids now.

When I was a new mommy 27yrs ago General Hospital and the rape of Laura by Luke was the big story.

I was gaa gaa over Scotty and who was the skank who was always trying to get in his bed and break Laura and Scott up, she was the ex prostitute turn Nurse.

Have not watched soaps in 20yrs oh I take that back I watch the Spanish speaking ones once in awhile as a second language tool.

This guy had fairly recently lost his mother to cancer. A slow death, I presume. Well I happen to catch one of the latest episodes (my wife TiVo's them, its her one guilty pleasure), and in it, the daughter of his character is dying from some disease. A slow, lingering, pathetic death, it was awful, dreadful, and in my mind, it was almost pornographic, the amount of angst and pathos the writers poured onto the screen. It was beyond pathetic.

I wonder if filming those scenes was a bit much for his character. The loss of his mother apparently hit him quite hard, I believe he lived with her up till then..
