I cut out diet soft drinks (which means all soft drinks for me) a few weeks ago, to see if avoiding artificial sweetners made a difference in my joint pain. I tell you, I miss them! There is something about the carbonation that just makes drinks more refreshing to me. I also miss having something sweet, since I low carb, and now, without artificial sweetners....well...YIKES!

I drink 1-2 Diet Rites/day + 1-2 cups of tea, with 1-2 packets of Splenda and oatmeal for breakfast with 2 packets of Splenda. What about sugar-free gum? I chew a lot of that - is that bad for me too? I dunno, it seems like some of this stuff is fear-mongering.
You could have Club Soda sweetened with a little orange or apple juice, couldn't you?
I do drink mineral water every day. Not sparking water or club soda but real mineral water. Natural "carbonation", zero calories, zero carbs, it's just water but very refreshing due to the natural bubbles. It's really good with just a splash of juice - orange, cherry, etc.
The best tasting mineral water I've found is Gerolsteiner. Trader Joes carries it if you have one in your area.
