That was how I read it, too.

However, as a native of the Deep South, there are running jokes around here about the neighboring counties:

Q. What do you call a six-year-old virgin from Brantley County?
A. A girl who can outrun her brothers...

It isn't even an attempt at painting - it's what Hollywood firmly believes that the South and Midwest are: provincial, backward, sinister places populated by violent, narrow-minded religious zealots.

Who (even worse) lack nuance. After all, look at the President they elected. ;)
