Spurlock is about as accurate in his "documentaries" as Michael Moore. I won't be watching.

well, I guess it's not news to the Mighty Admin Mod.
Shucks.

We better stick to the more important topics like the 70 year old guy who got punched in McDonalds...hehe.

That's far more important than the outsourcing debate we have here once a week....sheesh, sometimes you people kill me...

He's a lefty but it is interesting.
Call Centers are low end jobs here, over there people are fighting for them.

A few bucks a day to hire an Indian to handle calls.
I am leery about this sort of thing, but what can you do?
On the one hand I hate to see jobs outsourced.
But on the other it's a no brainer.
What company in their right mind would hire Americans when they can hire much better Indians for a third of the cost?

I was reading about that. In India, they'll sometimes get 20,000 applicants for one position. They are hugely competitive. Getting a call center job in India is akin to winning the lottery.

Furthermore, call-centers are something businesses would rather not have in the first place. They are an expense and don't generate revenue. When you've bought your computer from Dell, you've already paid for it. When you can't figure the thing out and call customer service, you're not generating any revenue for Dell. you're only costing them money. They provide this service out of obligation.

Of course, now some companies charge far telephone customer support (and I think Dell might be one of them).

I've noticed this too lately. The mods seem quick to move many threads over to General/Chat --otherwise known as "where threads go to die."

I ususally click "All of the above" when browsing and have come to appreciate some of the more off-the-wall threads that get posted in places other than News/Activism.

This just piqued my interested because way back in the day I worked in a call center during undergrad.
It was a real low end job.
They were paying 6.00/hr to deal with credit card customers (yikes!) and the staff consisted of: college kids making beer money, obese middle aged women making cat toy money, and unemployed guys who just got canned at the farm implement factory.
Wow.
The folks at that place were more interesting than a Walmart checkout line.

Anyhow in India they are getting 30 something people with multiple degrees who are begging for these jobs. The one gal was a teacher but could double her income by working in a call center.

Now where in America can you hire a 35 year old woman with a BA & MA to answer phones for 125.00 a week?

it's no problem.
I figure JimRob has finally outsourced the Mods job to India and the thread topic ticked them off...

We had a guy from India that was here in the states doing some work for us. He was real good and very smart. Unfortunately, we outsourced his job to India and had to let him go.

You can stop after "He's a lefty". There is nothing else. Just wait 7 days and he will deeply, deeply offend you and you'll see why there is nothing more than just propaganda going on. The fact that Fox network gave him a show just means that they are still stocking up on alligator attack footage and don't have enough to fill up the evening time slots yet.

I hear ya, but I am troubled by one thing...I know he's a lefty, but that doesn't mean the phenomenon doesn't exist. Outsourcing actually happens.
What it means is a different story.
Just because the speaker is a lefty doesn't mean I should cover my ears and say "nah, nah, nah, nah".
How do you suppose we defeat their arguments if we never hear them?

As for Spurlock, yes he's a flaming lib and the show ended as one could predict, with the outsourced guy basically saying that after living in India and seeing the poverty there, he was glad he lost his job to them.
(No, I'm not *&^%$ you, he actually said that)
This is classic liberal docu-drama technique in which people experience a revelation about how bad/greedy they were.
And the liberal guy "grows" from the experience.
(Of course he's still an unemployed programmer who will probably never get back to the high life he was living in 1998, but hey, welcome to economics 101)

At least most of the Americans can speak English understandably.

...and the next time I get one of the Indian call-center dorks telling me his name is "Johnny" I'm going to answer in my broadest Southern twang or Brooklynese, "Yeah. And my name is Srivasthavinian Subramanian. I'm calling from Pune."

Cheers!

Outsources, smoutsourcing. Spurlock is a flaming lib and nothing he touches will be anything but propaganda. Be up in arms about the issues that you care about but do not let that flaming twit in on the bandwagon so that he can light it on fire or paint it pink.

He isn't making an argument. He is simply trying to 'humanize' the people he wants to be the victor in each episode and embarrass the person he wants to be the villian. The is the beauty of making your own show - you can to choose your own facts and create your own characters. Even pretending that Spurlock is somehow involved in any debate is to basically concede that emotions are as important as facts and that his 'feelings' are as valid as your argument.

Don't be troubled. Just ignored these whining pantywaists. Propagandists should be called out as such and not given a seat at the table negotiating the fate of our country.

He is from West Virginia, I am from West Virginia.

Please...don't use him as an example of West Virginians folks..

MOST of us have better sense.
