Now, I will be the first one to say NAtalie is a very immature person and a COMPLETE IDIOT and, she, basically, has cost the entire band millions and millions of dollars....just so she could run her mouth. And, when told she was being an idiot, rather than heed advice and warnings, she chose to ramp it up and totally destroy the bands future.... basically the same thing many 10 year olds do when they are told to shut up or get smacked....they end up getting smacked. Some learn...some don't. NAtalie seems to weak and immature to accept her consequences, shut her mouth and try again....she'll keep pushing and pushing - insisting she was right and the millions of people not going to their concerts are stupid, backwards, country hicks....which, unfortunately for her - IS HER AUDIENCE!!!! They wanted to "cross over" to more top-40-ish type music...but they won't be able to. They are regarded as a country act...so top40 won't touch them...and they are doomed in country circles. They will either break up (when MArnie & her sister realize that Natalie screwed them good) or languish in a semi-limelight forever (this is probably the best as it will cause permanent dissatisfaction with life, regret and angst in all of them - which they deserve).
However, they are an EXCELLENT band. One of the best in country music. I have their first 3 CD's and LOVE each one and would consider them amongst my favorite CD's (along with Queen II, Yessongs, Rush - Hemispheres, Crack the Sky Live WBAB, and CLint BLacks - D'lectrified and ALice in Chains "Jar of FLies" , oh and don't forget ALice Cooper "Love it to death" - I have an extensive and well-rounded collection - and a wide range of taste!).
So, my poiint is, trash the chicks all you want...they deserve it. But, don't "diss" their music...I guarantee they are better musicians than YOU probably are (unless, of course, Freeper Tony Kaye is reading - in which case - you can say ANYTHING you want - you HAVE that right!).
I just hate the "groupthink" mentality around here sometimes....reminds me of DU. ANd, it's embarassing.
The Chicks are good musicians, and a fun group.
At the same time I am delighted that their anti-American comments, and rude comments toward President Bush have torpedoed their career, and sunk this recent tour.
I am laughing with scorn at the leftists who said they would support the Chicks, and that none of their talk would hurt their career in the least. -- especially those who at the beginning of this recent tour, said "See! The Chicks Ride Again!"
Obviously the beginning of the tour and the first release of the recent album, was totally subsidized by the record company, in order to kick-start the whole money-machine again. The failure of THAT attempt is the best part of the entire escapade.
There are probably a dozen "decent" musicians slinging hash all across this country working nights with country bands and looking for a break. These buttheads got their break and tossed it in the trash. Screw em.
You could have included a BARF tag just before your last paragraph but NOOOOOOOOO...you just let it rip!
(BUT, what else would one expect from Maryland - a REAL conservative stronghold!)
Be careful, the political officer will be around shortly to re-program you!
Seriesly, don't worry about all the dung about to be heaped on you. I'm living proof that one can survive hundreds of posts stating that anyone who likes the Chicks (oh, and damn me to hell, I actually went to one of their concerts!) is not a patriot, is a sheep, stupid, blah blah blah. The fact that you can separate the singers from their music puts you in the top percentage of people who actually think for themselves.
Fridays are a good day for threads like these, for some reason they become incredibly funny! Just don't mention Elvis!
That being said...there was a time when most musicians and actors supported their country first or at least understood the perils of mixing politics with their careers.
I do not have a Dixie Chick recording...but I must say that if I were part of that group, I'd distance myself from the one with a career death wish...
They a certainly reaping what they sowed. I can't imagine insulting one's fans or clients.
Well said KeepUSFree.
We need to stop thinking alike...someone will accuse us of groupthink!
Lord help the freeper with a differing viewpoint. At one time there was discussion, but that was 'back in the day'.
I can get behind that. But it isn't just that the Chicks dissed the President anymore. They insulted and patronized their fans -- the people who, like you, enjoyed their music. Good musicians they may be, but there are a lot of good musicians out there who deserve attention and don't thumb their noses at the people who appreciate them. The Chicks did the absolute dumbest thing any entertainer, in any area of show business, can do, and that can't help but transcend whatever music they put out.
There is also the matter of the liberal media culpability in all of this. The hysterically-fawning articles (especially the Time cover), that basically demanded everybody like the Dixie Chicks and buy their CD insulted the intelligence of record-buyers from coast-to-coast. People just don't like to be told what they're supposed to like -- a fact that leftists will never understand.
Whatever the merits of the music, this is a total meltdown of epic proportions, and it all comes down to their embracing of the Left as somehow "smarter" than the average Joe. If they'd rather have people in Che shirts at their concerts, so be it, but the truth the media always obscures is that there really aren't all that many folks in those t-shirts, and they usually outgrow them, to the peril of the entertainers who attach their careers to that "set."
[I own one Dixie Chicks CD, which I still love--it's old--before Goodbye Earl. As far as my feelings towards the DC's: shadenfreude.]
What I can't stand is the name-calling. Upthread someone calls them "sluts." That kind of name-calling doesn't reflect on any of the Chicks. It reflects on the person who posted the comment and even more on FR, unfortunately. Name-calling is just so elementary-schoolish. [And I am not without sin in this regard.]
This dixi chix caused me to change the dial LONG before they committeed career suicide.
Give it a rest. It really does not matter how good they are, every dollar spent goes to giving them a venue to bash the USA with their leftist rant.
They are 100% replacable and I predict the studio will end up owning all the rights to their album and give them over to some other fungible talent to recycle the songs in a few years. (perhaps with a greater emphasis on the man bashing parts)
Well said.
We don't get a rat's ass about the music. There are zillions of good replacements for the Ditzy chicks. They just don't matter.
