Bet you could some pretty fancy stair steps with one of those!

But I guess the budget problem is with the lawyer you'd need on call after? *\;-)

Why would we need a lawyer?

Fancy stair steps can be a trip & fall hazard. Here in the States, that's lawyer-bait.

(I took a spill on a stairway last year in a German building owned by my employer. Amazingly, the step edges were not highlighted -- if anything they were occluded by the fancy stone patterns, and my d***ed bifocal glasses prevented me from seeing the step edges clearly.* Fortunately the only thing hurt was my ego, but it could have been worse.)

(* Stairs have been h*ll since I finally wound up wearing glasses.)

"... the real reason I want to get a stair trencher!"

The ones I've seen all appear to be open spindle types. So much for keeping things clean.

If you can't find what you want in England, consider coming over here. We make them too.

Oh.. I see what you mean, actually, I was referring to 'ploughing' the strings, not the steps.

But, speaking of legalities regarding steps - it's a minefield over here, steps under a certain width can lead to lawsuits if an injury occurs - fine, but the problem is planning engineers often don't design the hallways of houses with staircases in mind - it's often a tight squeeze to get the step within regulation - but engineers have their bases covered, so it's the manufacturer who gets the blame if anything goes wrong! :(

As it happens, though - we haven't made any unusual stair threads.

What do you mean by open spindle? Do you mean open riser?

Well, these have already been sold.

We have some nice new CSR-700s for only $40,000 if you like that clean enclosed chamber design.

My experience has been that it is quicker to listen to the album play and start/stop the recording on a track by track basis. It seemed to take longer to split the large whole-album file into tracks.

What have you been finding?

Damn, that Pickles one has been sold - they have a good reputation!

Not paying $40,000 for anything... unless it's a house, then it would be a bargain by Irish standards!!

Oh, I think I know what you mean with "open spindle" - open spindles are basically the only kind of stairs done over here - thus the term isn't used!

*scratches head*

I still don't see how spindles relate to stair trenchers.....

I discarded that approach, perhaps in response to my hardware setup. I didn't want to be tied to the computer through the entire recording process, particularly with the display lags of VNC over wireless. For my setup it's easier to fire off a recording of one (or two) albums, and deal with the post-processing en masse.

It would be a bit faster to work at the recording machine directly, but my old-fashioned dislike of TVs in the living room (fka parlor) extends to computers.
