Yeah, but we still are #1 in American Football.

Yeah but an English guy told me that most towns in England have their own American Football teams. I also read that the Seahawks and Patriots are playing in China next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see China take to a war-like sport like football and flourish.

What's really telling is here is this thread with only about 20 replies, and this is one of our big sports.

Meanwhile supposedly nobody cares about soccer in the US, but the World Cup threads each had hundreds of posts.

Kind of puts in perspective how meaningless this tournament is.

Wow! I honestly though the USA team had a good shot this year at the gold. Even with the loss, I still like the team that was fielded compared to the last. These guys had the right attitude, regardless of the outcome.

Yeah, and with China's history of emphasizing deception in warfare --- look for a lot of gadget plays & well-disguised coverages. ;)

The funny thing is that it took this long for a team to catch on to a good strategy. Many had critiqued the lack of shooters on the team prior to Mike making the final team cuts.

The "team" game beats the one-on-one game. It was no surprise in the Olympics and it comes as no surprise here.

that's why I think the U.S. team should get more college guys like Reddick and Morrison who can actually shoot and all without the fancy crap. I honestly think a team of only college players would be better than what we have now

It is meaningless but we have been getting our butts handed to us in basketball for about 10 years now. I just get sick of the pump up these guys get as individuals. Americans are supposed to believe these guys are like cyborgs yet Europeans and South Americans are using fundamentals and team effort to beat a bunch of individuals trying to act like a team.

Well, so much for us being best at baseball and basketball. At least the USA is still tops in football (American football, that is).

I was going to post a joke about JJ being a "good shooter", but decided not to.

A good solution would be to have the team that won the NBA championship compete in FIBA for that year.

Miami Heat had the time to gel together as a team. Only one problem, Pat Riley won't let his team to compete in FIBA.

Name of the game. Couldn't have said it better, Korvac.

Chris Bosh is quoted in an interview saying, "We didn't play any defense. They got 101 points. They got second chance points. They outworked us. "They taught me how you can lure a team to sleep and then just go," he said. "I'm going to take this tape home and watch it. Every day."

Relax, this team was built for 2008.
We've got 6 guys 22 or younger. Winning in 2006 would have been nice, but it's nowhere near a travesty. We could look at the silver lining there's no way our guys are going to be overconfident in 2008.

America is a victim of our own success, better athletes around the world are picking up our sports. This is keeping us from getting fat and lazy.

Why is it that the people in charge of putting together the American team don't ever learn. They do not pick American's players who have and are aleady playing in Europe and are familiar playing European basketball as part of the team. I kept hearing all these excuses over the weekend "we have to learn to play European basketball...play like a team....We have to learn the international game better....boo-hoo-hoo" Whatever, America already has very talented American basketball players who know very well how to play "the internatonal game, they might be straight out of college some of them and very well known, but they are playing in Europe, they are familiar with this style of playing as well as familiar with most European players and these American players are some of the best over there. It really leaves one shaking his/her head for the reason they don't make up the USA "Dream Team" is because they don't sale sneakers. [tsk, tsk]
