Public School Teachers
My little old brain ^ | 13SEP06 | me

Posted on 09/13/2006 8:21:18 PM PDT by bannie

I keep seeing people drag public school teachers down. If you don't like what teachers are doing, direct conservative people--your children?--into the profession so that it can be changed. That was what the liberals did in the '50's and '60's.

The problem is that conservatives have to go "undercover" during their undergrad, postgrad, and certification processes in order to get good grades and certification.
The professors are liberals - those in charge of curriculum are liberals...and if you show your conservative stripes the grades suffer for it.

Um, that's what I'm doing. And I'm not the only conservative teacher at my public school. We are turning it around for the better, even in urban Jackson, Mississippi.

The liberals pretty much "locked the door" after they got in and took control.

They rule at every level now and for a conservative to get (and stay) in is a perpetual uphill battle.

Yes, but once in the trenches, they can teach! It may not be easy, but it's worthy.

My parents are public school teachers. They indoctrinate no one, and they are among the best out there. They work constantly and have dedicated their entire adult lives to teaching. So you won't find any punches being thrown your way from me.

And many are doing just that. They are encouraging their children to homeschool.

I agree with you both. As a frmr teacher and now husband of one of the best, good conservative educators are fiercely needed. If you have the right mind and can stand the politics, there is more freedom in the classrom than people think possible.

Yes...I married one who made it through...but it is easy to see how conservative students would get discouraged.
Also..the curriculum is rather dull...not very challenging.
It is like jumping through the necessary hoops just to get to the point where you have the authority to teach.

Except for criminal justice, math and science(the 3 most neglected subjects in most schools), you won't find too many of our kind teaching in public schools.

It's not that easy. Just try sitting though some Lib arts lectures and you'll understand.

No punches from me. I have a 17-year-old, senior in high school who intends to do just what you have suggested. She is pretty doggone tough too. :)

I don't think it's the teachers people have problems with....it's the UNIONS!

The funny thing is that I'm seeing more teachers start to become conservative after they go through the insanity of the credentialing program as they figure out on their own that the system is completely broken.

But truth be told, I wouldn't inflict that process on my worst enemy, much less my own flesh and blood. The liberal indoctrination program that is the credentialing process is just beyond any reason. The projects they stick prospective teachers with would make the DNC blush. And the student teachers are paired with some of the most liberal educators in the neighboring districts.

One student teacher I knew was paired with a teacher who had no control over his classroom, didn't bother to grade papers because everyone would get the questions wrong anyway, and simply gave a 'feeling' grade at the end of the semester. Those who acted like they might go to college got 'A's, those who didn't got 'C's.
