Missed Katie's faux-pas, but I thought I was the only one who remembered Kerry lumping flight 800 in with previous terror attacks.

Rumor had it that Kerry used it to keep algore out of the 2004 Presidential race. Reportedly he was ready to out Gore in a cover-up of the disaster.

We have always known this could happen. We've warned about it. We've talked about it. I regret to say, as -- I served on the Intelligence Committee up until last year. I can remember after the bombings of the embassies, after TWA 800, we went through this flurry of activity, talking about it, but not really doing hard work of responding.

Nothing concrete, I do distinctly remember rumor and innuendo at the time. I became a talk radio junkie somewhere between 9/11 and the '04 election and remember someone talking about Kerry's mention that flight 800 was a terrorist attack. Whoever said it mentioned Kerry's strongarming Gore.

There are facilities in the White House, not the normal situation room which everyone has seen in the past, has seen pictures of, but there is a second situation room behind the--the primary situation room which has video conferencing capabilities. In the aftermath of the TWA Flight 800 bombing and--and that would be the way they would stay in contact through the afternoon.
