NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma president David Boren sent a letter to Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg on Monday, asking him to push for the Sooners' game against Oregon to be eliminated from the record books and have the Pac-10 officials involved in the game suspended for the remainder of the season

Sorry Sooners, but this is pathetic.

Couple thoughts:

1. Does OU want to erase any game that may have been turned by a "bad call"

2. I originally thought it was a bad call, after watching the vid a couple of times, it looks like a sooner had a piece of it. Inconclusive at best, call on the field stands

You can "want" in one hand and crap in the other. See which one fills up first.

This is just playing to the home crowd.

it wasn't just a bad call. OU recovered the onside kick. Oregon touched it before it went 10 yards..... and they gave the ball to Oregon.

Consider the financial impact between playing in a BCS bowl and a non-BCS bowl. (assuming OU wins out.... which is still questionable). This is about a huge financial impact on what was clearly a "setup". A cheat. An intentional cheat.

Dead Dog.....You are just plain wrong here.....not even close. The Oklahoma team was jobbed the whole game and especially on the onside kick.

Hard one for any good sport to swallow and especially when the evidence is that conclusive

Will OU vacate their national titles won under the Barry Switzer era.

David Boren...get over it. Yes, bad calls and you probably shouldn't have lost. I don't disagree with some punishment for the officials either as a part of their normal weekly reviews.

But void the game...don't think so.

Wow, someone can't handle losing! You would think that this was the first bad call in the history of the sport.

Losing hurts......especially to a team named the Ducks....and whose mascot is Donald Duck.

Oriole fans are still waiting for a ruling on that fly ball that brat from Connecticut interfered with in Yankee Stadium which resulted in the play being called a home run in the 96 ( I think) playoffs.

I think Stoops should , in this one instance, follow the advice of George Soros and MoveOn.

Big Sooner fan here,- my daughter is a student there- but I think Boren is wrong on this one.

Yeah, the calls were questionable, but you can't set a precedent that games can be voided because of the officials.

They should just use refs as spotters and call the penalities from the booth.

LSU got robbed against Auburn this past weekend too.

Sooner or later some school will sue some conference over a bad call that costs them a lot of money.

Was it a horrendous call? Absolutely. Did they get screwed on who actually RECOVERED the onside kick? Yes!! Did they get screwed on the Pass Interference call? Yes they most certainly did (the ball was clearly tipped)....

But will this get anywhere....not a chance in hell. If I were Missouri I'd be asking the commish to review the "5th down game" against Colorado from 1990....

Hey, OU!

What about the two National Championships in the 70's you "won" by cheating and recruiting illegal players? Not to mention giving the players cars, bonuses, etc.

First down
second down
third down
fourth down

Correct me if I am wrong, but the ref's cannot use instant replay to call a penalty, therefore since they ruled the ball went 10-yards (on the infamous on-side kick), they could not use replay to call a penalty on Oregon for touching the ball before going 10 yards.

A cheating official? Please. Cheating requires intent. You're trying to tell me that he intended this to happen?

By the way, maybe cover the WR...was he that wide open because of the official?

By the way, make the tying FG...did the official blow really hard to make the kick miss?

Come on, you guys are ridiculous. Yeah, they were bad calls but you make it sound like a grassy knoll was involved and there was some kind of intent. Give me a break.

Both teams had chances. OU missed a tying FG. The TD they gave up to Oregon was pathetic the guy was so wide open.

They can use the instant replay for that purpose. And they can clearly see that OU recovered the fumble. How do they miss that? It wasn't even close, or tied up with two players.

Actually the finances are not an issue. The only way they could be is if Oklahoma were to be eligble for one of the 2 at large bids.
If they win out, they are Big 12 champs and are in the BCS automatically, they would have to lose another game to not win the Big 12 and yet get an at large bid. Considering the number of quality one win teams there will be this year, they will not get an at large bid.
So finances has nothing to do with it.
And don't forget that the Big 12 already shares that money anyway.

Not cheating. Incompetence.

The rumor now is that the replay official was Gordon Riese. If this is the case, the blown replay calls are a result of gross incompetence, not bias. From another message board (I also posted it on the Saturday thread):

The correct spelling of the official's last name is RIESE. Additionally, Gordon Riese is far from being a respected official in any normal D-IA conference sense. He is best known for being a part of the officiating crew that called "The Play" between Cal and Stanford in 1982. However, in recent years he has been relegated to the replay booth, as would be right to assume, because he got older(he's 66), his eyes blurier, mind duller, and his legs a tad slower. He got stuck upstairs because, to put it bluntly, he was f*cking up so many calls on the field. That's right...Mr. Riese's bad calls started a riot in a WSU vs WU in a 2002 game and he single handidly gave a game to USC against UCLA in 2004. At first the Pac-10 tried demoting Mr. Riese from Referee to Line Judge but even then the complaints regarding his officiating became to numerous for even the Pac-10 to ignore. They eventually forced him to 'retire' by placeing him behind a replay screen. He resides in Beaverton, OR and is a graduate of Portland State. Oh, and he wears Nike Airs.

I guess this guy's been screwing up PAC 10 conference games for years.

OU recovered the onside kick.

Baloney. You're the only person I've seen yet to claim that. Oregon clearly recovered the ball.

I think it's likely that Oregon touched the ball prior to it going 10 yards, but so did an OU player.

Oregon recovered.

Whether they were required to rekick the ball, I don't know. But it wasn't OU ball.

See! SEE!!! THIS is what happens when you introduce Instant Replay into college football. Ridiculous! Unfortunately, there must be "CONCLUSIVE" evidence that the call on the field was wrong, not just "pretty good evidence". Bob Stoops should show some class and just let it go.

Good old Barry Switzer, I actually miss the days when he was coaching the Cowboys, it was never boring. And he gives the best interviews, especially when he tells the stories about his days coaching at OU. When he used to give interviews on The Ticket, beforehand they would give the over/under on how many times Barry would say "Hell" or "Damn."
