Trevor Hoffman just set a record for the number of "saves" in Major League Ball. The San Diego Padres were playing the Pittsburg Pirates. The final score: SD 2 Pitts 1.

Today was:

Sunday, September 24, 1:05p.m. Salute to Veterans

Also, the Graduating Class from MCRD was in attendance, courtesy of Trevor Hoffman. Not generally known, but Hoffman makes sure the entire Class from MCRD gets to attend. His father was a Marine.

Congrats to Trevor Hoffman...from a Dodger fan in L.A. (perhaps it just SEEMS like he got half of his saves against us).

By the way, I wonder what type of mattress from Larry (the "Sit N' Sleep guy) the Pittsburgh Pirates used to lie down this weekend...

Guess it shows how bad the Dodgers really are, to have that exciting game on Monday (and an OK finish today, both courtesy of Nomar), then lose three of four games (two to the aforementioned Pirates, and their manager - the Dodgers' ex, Jim Tracy) and trail in both the division and the wildcard races after leading both on Monday...oh well.

Hi C4B,

The Pirates played the Padres tough this weekend - the scores were 6-2 (no-hitter into the 9th), 2-1 (homer in the 8th) and 2-1 (homer in the 7th). The Pirates pitched well, played poor defense and didn't hit in the clutch. The Padres pitched extremely well, played adequate defense and hit just enough to win 3 straight. The first 5-1 homestand in quite a while.

The Magic number for Pads over Dodgers is 6...I've said all along that 87 wins would take the division. Pads are 83-72, Dodgers 82-74.

We were there Thursday, Saturday and Sunday to see wins, missed the Chris Young no-hit bid on Friday, but saw it on TV.

I do think Trevor has more saves against the Dodgers than any other team, like 57 or so, out of 479. But that figures it would be a team in the division.
