Woman Smoking While Pumping Gas Ignites Fire, Burns Self And Car

A woman in Orange County, Fla., was injured when she ignited a fire while smoking a cigarette as she filled her car with gas, according to Local 6 News.
Police said the woman was pumping gas at a Race Trac near the University of Central Florida when a cigarette butt sparked the fire.
Flames burned the gas pump and set her car on fire.
"The car is virtually ruined," a fire official at the scene said. "(It happened) just by doing something stupid by smoking while fueling her car."
Signs near the gas pump said "no smoking."
The woman will not be ticketed for the incident, Local 6 News reported.

She ought to be charged for the price of the response, as well.
Who in the world is dumb enough to SMOKE while pumping gas? It's not as if there are not signs everywhere -- or that most people know that gas + flame = big fire!

Um, that's been proven false.
What actually happens is the cellphone user gets back into the car, generates a static charge from friction, and then gets out and touches the pump handle.
The spark ignites the vapors, and kaboom! The static electricity does it, not the cell phone.

When I was a kid working in a gas station back in the 60's, it seemed like everybody smoked. Scared me on hot days with all the vapors floating around.

Hell, she will probably sue the tobacco companies and big oil for selling dangerous products! Natural selection took a swipe at this moron and missed; that is the real tragedy of this story.
