A 14-year-old girl who was reported missing Tuesday was located in Leake County that evening and back at home with her parent by 10:30 p.m., Kosciusko Police Chief R.J. Adams reported.

Kosciusko police had issued an Amber Alert to help search for 14-year-old Sherry Elizabeth Moore, who was last seen at Kosciusko High School at about 9 a.m. on Monday. There were no signs of abduction, Adams said.

Sgt. Pete Belk of the Kosciusko Poilce Deprtment picked the teen up at the Carthage Police Department Tuesday. She was in good physical condition “with no signs of abuse or injury,” Adams said in a news release.

Adams praised the Leake County Sheriff’s Office, Carthage police and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations for their “rapid response” in locating the teen. He singled out Belk and Cpl. Dirk Thayer for doing an “outstanding job” of filing paperwork and communicating with other agencies throughout the day while also presenting several cases in court.

“I am very proud of the way we completed all the required documents and our communications with other agencies to locate this child so quickly,” Adams said.

Adams said that 10 to 15 calls were received from people who had seen the girl, and he thanked The Star-Herald and BreezyNews for getting the Missing Person alert out to the public.

So, what's the story? Where was she? Why did she disappear? And why has she had nothing to say for herself, leaving us only with the police report that no signs of abuse were found?

"There were no signs of abduction, Adams said."

Runaway or trip to meet an internet "friend" most likely.
