I still don't think that would do it. Some equate these MFY to Team U.S.A. where you have a bunch of superstars but no team. I recently saw "Miracle" and the line that comes to mind is when Coach Brooks makes the final roster and says he's not looking for the best guys, he's looking for the right guys.

By brining Shef and Matsui right back into the fold, I personally believe they screwed up the chemistry of the team that was steamrolling.
