LOL Let's hope more patience than patients.

You must mean in Sussex County. It's the only real Republican county in Northern New Jersey. If someone saw that in Hudson county, you'd be having the BATF,Hudson Co. Sheriff's Dept. and NJSP a knockin' at your door. Silly, only police are allowed to have guns in NJ. /sarcasm.

I carry one of those Airweights and practice with a glove.

I'm not too worried about the sting to my hand if I shoot someone. However if you can't recover from the first shot that is a different matter. But you can find that out with practice practice practice.

Personally, I carry a Springfield M1911A1 Milspec .45 ACP. But I firmly believe in pounding tacks with sledgehammers.

It only took till post 7

If you don't have a Colt .45 you're a dumb@**

WTF is that?

Good God man! Overcompensating or something?

Just kidding.

Seriously though - what is that behemoth?

I practice with gloves also.I know the sting would not bother me in a self-defense situation. Its the shooting practice that gets to me. (100 rounds thrown out and my hands get tender)

I am a pretty big guy and even after 50 rounds in that kind of a gun I would get tired too. IMHO those little framed guns just aren't really much fun to shoot but you do it because you need to, not because you want to.

Right on. I'm a pretty little lady (as in 5 foot 2) I would much rather shoot am M-16 than my little airweight. Like you said, (you shoot it and become proficient, because you need to)

I do not recommend carrying a gun if you have any doubt that you can kill another person, and I do not recommend carrying a gun unless you have a good sense about when killing is an appropriate response to a threat. If a gun comes out in a fight, bet on some one dying

you are using the wrong words, you dont CCW to kill, you carry CCW to defend you life or life of family or otherrs.

You want to go to jail just keep talking kill issue, or most certainly will get someone else in much trouble.

I do agree you must be able to pull the trigger.

see post 79 for fully realization of what it means to CCW and how to carry yourself.

I think we are on the same page. I liked your post. I don't think people carrying concealed weapons want to kill another person. I just think that people who want to carry a gun understand that a gun isn't a magic wand that makes problems go away. Pulling a gun is life and death. It can escalate things as easy as it can defuse them. People who want to carry a gun for protection need to understand that pulling it very well might change their life, for the worse, forever. That is, if they survive the following few seconds at all.

Most people don't ever need a gun for protection. Forget rights. I agree most everyone has a Constitutional right to own a gun. I don't think most people need to carry a gun, and I don't think most people should. I think people who want to carry a gun should think about what it means to either be killed themselves in something would have ended better if they weren't armed, or think about the likelihood that if the use a gun for protection it means dealing with the legal, financial, psychological, and moral consequences of taking another life. If they don't understand that, they shouldn't carry a gun. In the end, a gun is used to kill. Even if that killing saves your own life, it's still killing, with all those real life consequences. It's life and death out there.
