The new version of the Firefox web browser has been released today.
Firefox 2.0 contains 12 major enhancements, says its developers, including a built-in spelling checker. There are also cosmetic changes to the browser, which is produced by volunteers on an open-source basis.

To use it properly, however, you must think in Russian.....
I read the reviews. Not much new, says it should be 1.8 not a major release a 2.0 should offer.
Still one of the best browsers around however.
A lot of what is incorporated in this release was already out there as extensions to version 1.5. Comes at a good time as IE now has now released IE7.
I love the 2 minute update. Firefox is Great!
When I go to the Help menu and click on Check for Updates, the inquiry responds with No updates found. I have checked to see what my current version is and Im running 1.5.0.7 is the 2.0 upgrade available only to a select group (I have Firefox set to advise me when a new update is available)?
I don't know if they consider 2.0 an update to version 1.5. I think the purpose of checking for updates is for minor security updates (like 1.5.0.7 compared to 1.5).
2.0 is more of an upgrade than an update.
Thanks for your quick response. With your reply in mind, I think I will just go get it.
I think I'll wait to see whether it has a lot of bugs.
After years of IE and all the wonderful experiences with their upgrades, I have developed a strong spirit of adventure. Not to mention the fact that I have experienced few of these wonderful experiences with Firefox, I think I will just jump in and trust in the whims of fate.
I completely understand you caution, however Im already running Windows and a greater test of faith in software is not known by mortal man.
My Firefox says the same thing: No updates found.
They may yet update the link -- I've read elsewhere that their servers are being taxed with downloads from those that who have read of its release. Just think about the millions who have not heard of the release and get a notice about a new version. They may wait a day or so until things calm down and the download demand lessens.
Thanks for the update was planning on waiting until tomorrow anyway.
Installed and running great, the spellchecker is a wonderful addition to it. Had to turn off the anti-phishing though as Firefox appears to be using a little more memory than I want it to with it on.
Only complaint is that most of the "themes" I was using haven't updated yet..
Luckily however, the Halloween theme I am presently using is working just fine..
There may be some problems with Firefox 2.0 -- I put up a vanity thread here:
