Generic ethernet drivers

I'm trying to connect my computer to a wireless router via the ethernet connection.
Thus far I've only been able to use a USB ethernet adapter.
My computer is not recognizing the ethernet connection and prompts me to install the CD so that it can install the ethernet drivers.
Only I don't have an ethernet CD.
Can somebody direct me to generic drivers via the net? My OS is Windows XP.
Thanx.

Is the ethernet on your computer on a separate card or is it built into the mother board? What brand is your computer?

Go to the manufacturer's website and look for the drivers. There are no "generic" drivers.

If you are using XP, it should find the drivers for you. What ethernet device are you using?

What brand of ethernet adapter is it? Try Googling the make and model with the word 'driver' and see what you get. Or try
www.driverguide.com.

Wait, you say you are trying to connect to a wireless router?
Does it have wired access ports as well? Are you sure you are plugged into a wired port? You could be in the wrong RJ-45.

Is the ethernet on your computer on a separate card or is it built into the mother board? What brand is your computer? Yes, it is built into the motherboard. What brand? It's a custom build. The motherboard is an ASUS A7V8X socket 462 ATX. At least, I think that's the motherboard. I'm reading off the invoice.

First you have to make sure you're logged in. Are you logged in?

Actually, it appears to be a CD rom image - launch should be the program that'll start everything for you.

I downloaded that file and extracted it, it has a file called "make disk" not sure what it does, but maybe it makes a ethernet cd for you... ? it also has folders so you could probably install the normal way
To: LouAvul
Look for a folder called "Make Disk"

Are you sure you are plugged into a wired port? You could be in the wrong RJ-45. There are two. One on the motherboard and one on a card that says LAN.
My modem is plugged into the motherboard USB socket. Should I be plugged into the RJ-45 socket next to the USB port or the RJ-45 socket on the LAN connection?
