It was the first World Series rainout since the 1996 opener between the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees.
I'm sure is is just some "Cardinal's" conspiracy to throw Detroit off track.......
How about a Sunday afternoon World Series double-header??? Maybe a twi-nighter. That would be pretty slick.
Who won???
The rain gods.
How about a Sunday afternoon World Series double-header???
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker-Jacks!!
Forget the cracker jacks. Gimme a frothy brew.
Lager, ale, porter or stout?
India pale ale
... brewed by Franciscan monks!
Can't do that without having a toast!
To Victory 2006!
*clink*
I'll drink to that! "Clink"
Staying in shape for the next game.
*wink*
For chrissakes it 30 degrees colder at night...in the 40's and 50's.
You bust your rump all season long to play in this crap just to sell more beer and cars.
When I saw Willie Mays make that catch and Bill Mazerowski make Mickey Mantle cry it was in the middle of the afternoon on a 13 inch B&W Admiral.
Then we raced outside to play catch and pretend we were Warren Spahn or Whitey Ford...sometimes with snow on the ground.
Play the games in the October sunshine!!
I'm amazed at the late play times, and those folks last night looked to freezing!!
What happened to the Boys of Summer?!!
P.S. I STILL had a 13 inch black and white when Kirk Gibson hit his home run (1988)!!
*grin*
As long as there's money to be made in prime time games (that may end at midnight if not later) baseball won't change its ways. Especially with WSeries.
Example: Boston Red Sox. They have a choice:
--have a "getaway day" game in the daytime and get lousy
ratings for it on their own NESN network; but when they
fly to their next destination--say, the West Coast--they get in at a reasonable hour
OR
--have a "getaway day" game AT NIGHT and get higher ratings
on NESN, but they get into their hotel in the next
city in the wee hours. It affects their play the next day.
Which do they prefer? The latter, of course, though there's
talk they may want to do the "getaway day DAY game" route
if possible to get to the next city at a reasonable hour.
>>Boys of Summer?!!
In 2001 the last game of the WS took place on _November 4_
(Diamondbacks beat Yankees). Of course the late date was mostly due to pushing back games--postponements due to 9/11--
so the division series, LCS, and WS all got pushed back too.
With rainouts we might see the Series end as late as Oct 31
or November 1st
St. Louis weather forecast for today, October 26:
"Rain likely and isolated thunderstorms. High in the lower 50s. Southeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent. "
