LONDON, England (CNN) -- Naomi Campbell has been arrested and questioned by police in London after a woman alleged the supermodel assaulted her.
Campbell was taken to a central London station for questioning on Wednesday after the assault allegation.
The Press Association said Campbell, who has appeared on the covers of Vogue and countless other fashion magazines, was released later on bail. (Watch what an anger management expert had to say about Campbell's rap sheet -- 1:29)
A police spokesman told CNN a 36-year-old woman had been detained Wednesday afternoon after an allegation of assault.
Campbell's spokesman told PA he believed the incident was a misunderstanding that would be quickly resolved.
Campbell has faced allegations of assault before. The London-born model appeared in a New York court earlier this year to face allegations that she threw a phone at a maid.
In 2003, the model was sued by a former administrative assistant who alleged that Campbell had thrown a phone at her during a tantrum two years earlier in a Beverly Hills, California, hotel.

Naomi Campbell has been released on bail after being questioned over an allegation of assaulting a woman.
The supermodel, 36, in New York in June
The model was taken to a central London police station after a woman, reportedly her drug counsellor, alleged that she had been assaulted at an address in Westminster.
Last night Miss Campbell's spokesman said that he believed there had been a "misunderstanding" and that he was confident that "it will all be sorted out when the police investigate".
The Streatham-born supermodel was discovered in Covent Garden at the age of 15 and quickly shot to fame, becoming the first black model to appear on the covers of Time and French and British Vogue.
This spoiled brat definitely has anger management issues and a problem relating to other human beings.
It seems like some nefarious accusation against her pops up on a regular basis...
Could it be that the police are a little too anxious to arrest her and say the magic words, "Up against the wall and spread 'em!"
She's quite the feisty little minx, isn't she?
