As always the libertarians claim that legalizing controlled pharmaceuticals will bring a happy tomorrow. Libertarians claim that government control will bring in tax revenue and secure drug purity. Libertarians claim that government legalization will end gangs. The irony is that libertarians hate government intervention and see failure in everything the govenment involves itself in.

I got an idea, let's go back to the "good old days" of US drug policy when our forefathers went to China and the Near East and brought back opium for an awaiting public. Fully 20% of the US population were smack junkies alone. We can regain our trade deficit. We can offset our profit margins. I even concocted an ad tagline: "Don't get shakey: Demand your laudanum tonic!" Or wait, "Get rid of tough migraines: Ask for New Bayer Aspirin with our secret morphinate formula!" Or wait, "Make it a zippy day with New Pepsi Zing. Look for Mr. Methmouth on the label kids." Or a toothpaste ad can say "Oral B Teething Gel with patented fast acting Dentacaine. Now with 25 mgs Dantacaine--up from our 10 mgs from last year." Life will be super as we can drink a 2 liter bottle of Methmouth Pepsi to offset the laudenum sleeping tonic and we can apply Dentacaine to our gums after we drink our Methmouth Pepsi. And we can do all this without doctors' scripts.

Users and dealers: The only ones that want to legalize uncontrolled access to controlled pharmaceuticals. How much will you pay for your freedom to possess addiction slavery? The dealer's market force will decide and the government will tax. And then Utopia will reign.

I go an idea, let's go back to the days of Al Capone, speakeasies and gangland murder in the glory, carefree days of Prohibition.

==================================================== Milton Friedman told us in 1969 that a "War on Drugs" was doomed to failure. He was right then and he is right now. How long does the government need to do the same thing before they realize that they have to find a different way to deal with this scourge on our society?

Whether we like it or not, the "War on Drugs" has been the Government Price Support System for the Illegal Drug Trade.

Several years ago when challenged as a candidate to come up with an alternative plan, I proposed the following:
1) Start by Making it NOT illegal to posses and use Marijuana, thus reducing the Government Price Supports.
2) Allow Cigarette Companies to sell MJ Cigarettes, paying taxes to Government but seriously undermining the Illegal Drug Trade.

Sounds pretty bad so far, huh?

Then (3) Make Drug use or MJ use, even when the employer smells it or resulting B.O. (body odor) on the Employee's person a "fireable without recourse offense". Create specific Language in the Law to bar challenges by the ACLU and any other Parasite Lawyer Group.
Anybody who has ever dealt with a child who was using MJ will be instantly familiar with the heavy use of perfume and after-shave (even on sons who don't shave) to cover up the Body Odor that is produced by the use of MJ.

The punishment for using MJ would be administered quickly (i.e. Discharge from employment) by the market and not by the Government. The Government Price Supports would be eliminated.

I am not saying it would work for all drugs, but you have to start somewhere, and although, I would claim to be a John Stossel type "Classic Liberal" or Libertarian, I am sure that this approach is different from what is attributed to Libertarians.

Peace, Joy, and enough Ammunition to hold it all together.
