I would point out to you that few people on this site detest libertarians more than I do, but we have already had several libertarians purges on this forum already. I do not like the idea of another "Night of the Long Knives" on this forum. We've shown a lot of good people to the door over the last few years, and others have walked away on their own.

Let's knock it off and try living together for a change. Better yet, let's try working together...

Perhaps you are capable of honest reflection and in that honest reflection you are capable of recognizing and acknowledging that the GOP is better off with libertarians than without them. Libertarians love liberty. A true conservative position.

One of the problems with this site and with the GOP is the immaturity of punitive thinking. There is a difference between allowing people to experience the consequences of their actions and actively desiring punitive results.

My view is that the GOP would do well to take an honest look at why they lost rather than looking to blame. Blame is not helpful - honesty is.

...when it is obvious they will never gain a substantial part of the electorate.

That's an unfounded assumption.

BINGO!! We turned off the moderates (RINOS) and literally tried to kick them out of the Republican party.

Who's Boortz? The bald guy from the Atlanta station who's always on Larry King yelling at Randi Rhodes? That guy??

Great... then the two parties can be a Christian socialist GOP and a secular socialist Democratic Party. Just what we need.

Without the Libertarian leaning Republicans, the GOP will be a permanent minority party. Libertarians believe in the primacy of the US Constitution, and therefore in individual rights and responsibilities. In other words, retaining this Constitutional Republic

Well said!

Everytime the Dems lost an election we snickered as they blamed everything and everyone else, and refused to look in the mirror. The comments were all over this site, "Good! Let them keep doing the same thing they've been doing, so we can crush them again in two years!"

Now that the shoe's on the other foot, let's not make the same mistake they did. The GOP needs to return to what it does well - pushing to limit the federal government's size and scope. That's basically a libertarian agenda, and that's what will appeal to voters. This vanity does little more than alienate the very voters that hold the position we should be selling.

The Republican Party got it's start as a third party, and didn't hold much power at all until they won the Presidency.

After that the Whigs were history.

I call them liberal-tarians. They are almost universally adolescents, or adolescents trapped in adult bodies.

Now now...I don't wish ANYONE (er, well...ALMOST ANYONE) to go to hell.

I do wish Boortz would not have been so "dedicated" to principles that are so WRONG for our country. Do I LIKE him? No. Does it matter now? No. Should I learn something from it? YES -- Trust so-called Libertarians just as much as you trust Liberals.

Ah, so defeat at the polls is due to a Fifth Column and NOT incompetence, corruption, stupidity, lack of guts and a general "do as we say, not as we do" attitude by the Republican congress?

Defeat is not now the result of poor marketing, backed up by poor performance, but due to a 'conspiracy' of a few within the party?

Defeat is not now the natural result of saying one thing and doing the complete opposite, but the result of a bunch of brain-dead sheep believing everything the MSM, the deocrats and whatever boogeyman-du-jour you can cook up, swallowing whole what they were fed?

Take some Mydol and start thinking truthfully about what has actually happened, so that it doesn't happen again in two years.

If all you can provide to this debate is finger-pointing and not constructive, truthful criticism, then please stay out of it.

Thank you for blaming everyone else but Republican incompetance. If they didn't act like drunken democrats, we wouldn't even have to complain about the Libertarian vote.

Bush is spending more then Clinton ever did and we're supposed to be grateful. No, the Republicans deserved to lose.

IMO, the Reagan conservative movement officially died when Newt Gingrich was ousted during the Clinton impeachment. Even in this election cycle, Newt offered a 10 point plan for the Republicans to run on. After years of spending like drunken sailors, all the former majority leadership offered was "we suck less than Nancy Pelosi."

What was left after Gingrich? We called them RINO's, but they were Democrats that ran as Republicans. What will be interesting now is that a significant number of the newly elected (D) House members ran on positions that are to the right of the current/former Republican majority. Are they DINO's? Or, did they lie to get elected? If they are socialists disguised as moderate dems, i.e. they lied, they will be in the street in 2 years with the RINO bums.

Amen to that. The last thing the GOP needs now is to become factionalized. That will be catastrophic in '08.

If you think Libertarians are at fault for REPUBLICAN losses, then there is no reasoning and logic left to you. Republicans in office are solely responsible for their postions today. They left their base, imitated the Dems of 40 years' power in only 12, forgot about border security, let Mexico be our southern gate keeper, kowtowed to the Dems empty threats whenever they got po'd over something and basically wrote off the middle American values they so dearly craved in 1994...........

Free Republic is allegedly a CONSERVATIVE web site. Will you libertarians please go somewhere like Lucianne.com, where you can laugh and smile about how you put the Republicans out of power, and leave Free Republic to the conservatives.

I would love to see the liberaltarians leave Free Republic. The fact that someone doesn't like taxes and owns a gun doesn't make them a conservative.
