Ok folks, I need a refresher course. What is the essence of conservatism. What is it that we all agree on? When you distill conservatism down, what is left?

TOPICS: Business/Economy
KEYWORDS: conservatism
One point whe should all agree on is less government.

Apparently, since the election, Conservatism means posting vanities.

Smaller government and push power away from the federal government down to the local level - no more bull**** Big Government programs like No Child Left Behind, etc. Put the power in the hands of the people at the local level. They know how to govern themselves better than the bean counters in Washington.

Reinforce freedom and privacy, especially those areas important to personal freedoms which are found in the Constitution. Everybody who was cheering for the PATRIOT Act, etc., are now all of the sudden wetting their pants, thinking "oh crap, Democrats have Congress, and could take the Presidency in 2008 - what if they decide to expand the PATRIOT Act?". Things like property right, which the Supreme Court walked all over, etc., all need to be strengthened. Of course, this goes without saying, and ties into the smaller government and more localized government.

Those are two of the biggest issues we face, and where our Republican controlled federal government and Congress have let us down.

To me it's nothing more than pure, white hot, palpable, sickening, venal, hatred for democrats, and anyone who aligns themselves with it.

(Just 'cause that's what the goofballs over at DU want to hear.)

The Constitution.

Read your copy of the Constitution. See how far off track we really are. Conservatives believe the Constitution means what the words say...no more and no less.

The Constitution controls the size of government and restrains the power of officials.
