As we settle into the nighttime of dispair, fret not, for the Sun will rise again.
Good morning!!
We, here, will never forget those who died on September 11, 2001, and whose lives we cherish as we seek to protect the Republic from all who will do her harm.
The election was only four days ago, and the Democrats haven't even assumed power yet. Already, however, it is clear. They were disingenuous (shocking--isn't it?) about trying to rid Congress of scandal.
Yesterday, this space talked about the probable selection by Nancy Pelosi of Alcee Hastings to run the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. This man should, most certainly, be occupying government-paid space, but it shouldn't be Congress. A more apprpriate venue for Mr. Hastings would be Supermax.
But how did this come to pass anyhow? We were told time and again throughout the election that cronyism and scandal were the province of the Republicans.
Two comments was made yesterday by Henry Waxman, who will be heading up the House Government Reform Committee. First, the man said that he was going to have an interesting time figuring out what to investigate because his Committee had jurisdiction over, well, everything. The other remark was that his party had an obligation not to repeat what the Republicans have done (he was referring to the ignoring of scandals).
That's rather interesting.
Earlier this year, Representative Jefferson from Louisiana was suspected of taking bribes. An investigation was launched by the FBI, who, ultimately, searched the Congressman's office. Even the Republican Speaker of the House was outraged at this--not the potential crime, but that a Congressman's office had been searched.
What did they find? Well, let's just say that Rep. Jefferson became a walking cliche when cash was found in his refrigerator.
Were there calls for the removal of Jefferson from the House Democrats? Hardly. The crickets could be heard over the silence. It could be argued that Republicans simply believed the voters of Louisiana would take care of the problem (they have, sort of--though Jefferson will be in a runoff next month, one he is not likely to win as he trails badly) and had more pressing matters to attend to.
Democrats didn't stay silent for long, however. Was it a chorus of "Jefferson must go"? Hardly. In fact, it was quite the opposite, coming from the Congressional Black Caucus. They were screaming at the House Democratic leadership saying they didn't want Mr. Jefferson to be railroaded and sent to the cleaners (sorry--couldn't resist; those of you who remember the 70s sitcom will understand, as already stated, the man should be removed as he's become a walking cliche).
Where was Nancy Pelosi on this. Interestingly, she wanted Jefferson to go. She didn't make a lot of public noise about this, but that was the outcome she desired. The Congressional Black Caucus was far less than amused.
Now that Jefferson has been hung out to dry (all right, again, couldn't resist) by the voters of Louisiana, and the Democrats have gained power in the House, the Congressional Black Caucus wants a remedy. It appears Pelosi is prepared to give them one.
Alcee Hastings is not the senior Democrat on the Intelligence panel. He is the second ranking individual.
No problem, Ms. Pelosi appears prepared to remove the ranking member from that panel, giving Alcee Hastings the clear shot at the leadership post (which Pelosi has indicated would not be a problem).
Now, as already laid out yesterday, Mr. Hastings has made himself a most distinguished Member of the House. His behavior is hardly that of an ethical paragon of virtue. Quite the opposite--Mr. Hastings appears rather ethically challenged. Oh, heck, he's a crook, pure and simple. The bribary issue has never been resolved to the People's satisfaction; it was, however, to the Senate's.
But that's less important than keeping the Black Caucus happy. Put Mr. Hastings in. Let's roll down the scandal highway, ensuring cronyism from day one.
Democrats, rest assured, we will investigate you thoroughly and completely moving forward.
As Mr. Waxman said--it's going to be very difficult, however. There's just so much. We have a tough decision on where to begin.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
LET'S ROLL!!!
In some ways, the next two years will be fun.
I think many voters forgot last Tues just how scandal ridden the Dems were in '94, when they last controlled the House, and as you point out, Chairman, many of those crooks are still there!
Chair, if you're going to cover a crrok a day in this review of the democrats, you're going to be busy until about May of next year! LOL!
So, Veteran's Day, I always remember him, too.. WWII Navy.
How I miss him.
Happy Veterans Day, everyone. Remember to hug a Veteran today.
(((Molly)))
It is amazing that Dems can rattle on and on about corruption with all of the big name corruption stars they have. I hope they go at it with a vengenance and show the American people jsut what they really are.
I wonder if they are even going to consider Harry's land deals, and falsely filed papers, or Jefferson's "frozen assets" (sorry I couldn['t resist either).
Thank you for your kind words in the previous thread. My frustration is my candidate for Governor WON in the precincts I handled. I know there is nothing MORE I could have done here. In retrospect, I should have left someone else in charge here once I had things under control , and moved on to another County to help there.
Welcome to ATRW, I don't believe I've seen you posting here before.
Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 made its highly anticipated debut in Japan to long lines on Saturday, marking the first launch of the video game console that's expected to become a global sellout.Throngs of people lined up for hours around Bic Camera, an electronics retailer in downtown Tokyo, to get their hands on one of the consoles. The enthusiasm was so great, clerks with megaphones asked the crowd to stop pushing, warning that all sales would end if there were any injuries.
I'll be thinking of you more so this day than others. ((Molly))
Last week I went to buy a Playstation 2 game for my grandson. While I was waiting for the clerk to unlock the case, she told me that her store will only get 4 consoles, and that there will only be 400,000 for the entire United State. Going to be lots of disappointed kids this Christmas.
Good Morning!
Thanks Lysie for that song.
You have snow? None here, so far. Good. I'm not prepared, as usual.
Beautiful, lysie, though I had a hard time reading the end of it through the tears.
