Pelosi Could Lose Vote for Speaker
11-15-2006 | ritewingwarrior

I have been so busy lately that I haven't had time to keep up with the news or blogs. Something occurred to me today. The republicans, with the help of a few Dems, could manage to elect someone OTHER than Pelosi as Speaker.

The right needs to make a concerted effort to support a more moderate Dem as Speaker. There are enough centrist Dems out there to deny her the chance to be speaker. I calculate that the right only needs about 15 Dems to side with a second candidate. How about Speaker Hoyer?

While it sickens me to support any lefist, this very same plan worked with Lieberman. I disagree with most of Joe's policies, but he is much better than the alternative.

While we may have been defeated at the polls, the election was far from the mandate that the liberals claim it to be. The right needs to take advantage of this vote, and deny the liberals what they want.

On a second note, I think we failed to win the election because we continue to call our mission, "The War in Iraq". The war is over guys. We won the war. We win every engagement against hostile forces. But calling it a War continues to allow the other side to vilify the effort. The administration and the right would be better served to drop the word war, and denote the mission as Peace-Keeping Effort for the Sovereign Government of Iraq. The public believes what they hear, regardless of whether or not it is the truth.

I don't think Republicans even vote for Speaker. Only the majority party gets a chance.

The entire congress votes for Speaker. The Majority Leader and Whip are party only votes.

I disagree - let the Dems nominate the most shrill, liberal person they can for the job. Then we'll paint a caricature of the whole party based upon her conduct.

I heard the same thing on the news this morning and the person mentioned was Steny.

I wonder if the Republicans would do it.

It would be funny, but the Left doesn't have anyone with big enough stones for a stunt like that......or anything else.

Not only does the whole house get to vote on the Speaker, I am pretty sure the Speaker need not be a Congress Critter at all.

LOL,
Perhaps, but what would become of the DINO's who jump ship. Besides there could be an upshot to having that liberal Dem as speaker. After all, the more face time a lib gets, the less popular they become.

The entire congress has a serious responsibility in selecting the Speaker, because that person becomes third in line for the office of President of the United States. It would certainly be worthwhile for Republicans to make at least some effort to aid in electing someone more appropriate than Pelosi.

Well Hoyer is going to win the Majority Leader Position. That should show that Pelosi is out of favor right off the bat. If Hoyer wins, I think someone else would step up to challenge her. At least I hope so.

You are correct. The Speaker need not even be a member of Congress. Maybe we'll get Dean!

Not true. Both the DemocRATS and Republicans nominate a candidate for Speaker. Then they normally have a straight line partisan vote, and the majority party's nominee wins.

No they don't. Get Joe Stalin up there as the face of the D party. Let the American Public, who's more concerned about who's going to get voted off Dancing With The Stars or Skating With Apes than Who's Running Our Country, get an unmistakeable look at the D party, when their "programs" are interupted by a news break.

I think one reason we lost on the war issue was that the POTUS never in his speeches or daily briefings showed or told the good things our troops did/are doing in Iraq...draining swamps flooded by Saddaam and returning those areas into productive land, building and repairing schools and hospitals, restoring power...etc. A few pictures or videos of the good our troops are doing would have had greater impact than the silence we got.
