EAST LANSING -- Mark Dantonio will be Michigan State's next football coach. He was approved unanimously Monday morning by Michigan State's Board of Trustees. MSU President Lou Anna Simon recommended Dantonio at a special, media-friendly board meeting at the Clara Bell Smith Academic Center.

In a scene straight out of reality TV, the board and Simon sat at a table on the auditorium stage, with microphones attached, while a large media audience watched from nearby.

Dantonio, currently Cincinnati's head coach, "best matched all (the) characteristics and requirements" MSU sought, Simon said.

Maybe Dantonio can return the defense and winning that we had under Saban.

Michigan STATE, I repeat: STATE, is in need of all the the love that the state of Ohio is willing to give. We'll start by accepting Dantonio!! As an aside, It would have been nice to see an Ohio State/Univ of Florida matchup in the BCS.

I thought originally that Steve Mariucci would be their next coach.

Probably would have happened had Mama Mariucci OK'd it. She remains enamored with Cal weather however, and so she ixnayed the MSU opportunity

"It would have been nice to see an Ohio State/Univ of Florida matchup in the BCS."

As a matter of personal taste I would prefer Ohio State/LSU.

But that won't happen either...

I say "either" because Florida is going to lose to Arkansas, but even if they won...

That would be a great game, the OSU offense vs a Pellini D.

I agree with your conclusion, but - until the fat lady sings . . .

Tough question. It would be good for Miami, if only because he would improve the overall character of the team.

I think he would do well there, and it would be nice to see him coach the deep talent there, but with all the choices Miami has (they can scour the college and pro ranks) I have to wonder how far up the food chain he is.

UNC hired Dick "Crummy Dick" Crum from Miami of Ohio in 1978 (was fired in 1987).
