See the website for descriptions and further info on what theaters are participating. Not as good as being at the real thing I'm sure but MUCH more affordable and you don't even have to dress up.

I'm looking forward to these and have even convinced the hubby and possibly the boys to go to the Magic Flute with me. They could definately use some culture and refinement. God knows I've tried but being the only female in a household of males it's not easy.

Your hubby should like the Magic Flute. It's a popular one with guys. You may want to find a short book or two for the kids on the plot, and some musical selcections they can listen to. Kids respond well to Mozart.

Although the Met is here in NYC, I was surprised and disappointed to see no NYC theatres on the list I found -- only upstate New York ones.

No Wagner. How sad. :^) Good post though, thanks. I'll have to catch some of those.

And none in NJ either!

We should write the Met and let them know we'd like this. I know they have their reasons, and the Met is "local" here, but this would be a perfect city for this.

It would be a great offering for the Loew's in JC. They do a bunch of off-beat stuff there, and I think you could get folks in from Hoboken, etc. for it. It would definately work in NYC at any number of venues. Maybe it's like a football game, if it's not sold out no local air time. Which I always thought was ridiculous.

Hubby has recently been listening to the Met channel on Sirius because, get this - he heard Patti Smith say it is all she listens to at home!

This is very exciting, and innovative. However, abridged versions of masterpieces are appalling. What do you think?

Well, I'm pretty new to opera so I don't really have any experience to draw on here. IMO, something is better than nothing and I would be thrilled to see any or all of these.

After reviewing the locations though it appears that even though I saw it advertised at our local Regal cinema last night, or I would have never known about it otherwise, that there is only 1 city in my state that will have them and it's a 3 hour drive from me. I'm SO disappointed.

I thought for sure that we would have this here since I saw it advertised during the pre-views while waiting to see a movie last night. After seeing your list I'm SO disappointed.

The only site listed in my state is a 3 hour drive from me. I tried to access the list of theaters on my own but that link doesn't seem to work for me from that site. I may just stop by the theater box office tomorrow and ask them what the deal is.

If you are new to opera, then this is very exciting, you should go, it'll be a great experience. I think it's worth the drive.

But if you knew the works very well already, you would feel they butchered them and would be mad.

It seems that the first two operas aren't in NYC or NJ but the rest will be shown there. Other areas have similar situations. My city is not having The Magic Flute, but is having the rest of the operas. Maybe there were scheduling issues.
