Barry Bonds will try to eclipse Hank Aaron's all-time home run record as a member of the San Francisco Giants.

According to a report on MLB.com, the sides agreed to a one-year, $16 million contract Thursday evening that will keep the seven-time MVP in San Francisco for a 15th consecutive season.

Bonds needs 22 homers to break Aaron's mark of 755. Second on the all-time list with 734 career home runs, Bonds batted .270 with 26 homers this past season.

TOPICS: Sports
KEYWORDS:
He will hit 21 home runs this year and ruin the team chemistry.

He will drag the Giants to the trough one more time, hit 2 home runs, fake an injury and walk away another XX million.

He will then go on tour with O.J.

I wish they would intentionally walk him on every at bat, even if the bases are loaded.

a one-year, $16 million contract

this is a good deal for the giant fans. each home run ball he hits is probably worth 100,000. the tying ball will be worth 1 mil and the record breaking ball, who knows what that will be worth.

Bonds batted .270 with 26 homers this past season.

After a really slow start when he was batting around 225. Barry got his swing back toward the end of the year but he's not an every day player and just a knee sprain away from the DL.

Nobody else, and I mean NOBODY else, wanted this human hemorrhoid on their team.

And it's not as though the Giants are going anywhere next season.

The Giants overpaid - badly. They should've signed him for the league minimum (he would have taken it), let him get his tawdry record, and put him on the IR list the next day.

I live in the SF Bay Area and the thinking by the media and the fans seems to be pretty divided on this issue. A lot of people think he is more trouble than he is worth. I am surprised at the dollar amount of the contract if it is correct.
