Did anyone see Smallville last night? (vanity)

Posted on 12/08/2006 10:00:44 AM PST by Still Thinking

Did anyone see last night's episode? My daughter likes it but I don't usually watch. The liberals are fighting back, trying to indoctrinate the sheeple that illegals aren't doing anyone any harm, shouldn't face any illegal action, not even deportation. The illegals were good people with whom anyone could identify, and were generally portrayed in a totally sympathetic light.

From the previews I see that they've inserted illegal immigration into the movie about Bobby Kennedy as well.

That's pretty much how EVERY show depicts them.

I saw an X-Files last night with the same theme. The show was broadcast first in 97..

Not surprised. On the good side, it suggests the anti-illegal arguments are doing some good, or at least the libs are afraid that they will.

Maybe I don't watch that much TV, but I rarely see a show where the issue is even addressed, let alone central to the plot.

Didn't see the show.

I would imagine that the TV representation of an illegal immigrant is a brain surgeon who donates most of his earnings to food pantries so that starving American children have enough to eat. I would also expect this brain surgeon to save the life of the Mayor's husband -- but that the Mayor would still insist on deporting the wise and beneficent surgeon. Because she "just hates immigrants".

In Smallville, which I haven't seen in awhile, apparently Clark's dad has died, and now his mom is a state senator. She was initially in favor of having people follow channels when trying to immigrate, but being fundamentally a good person, she was enlightened by the end of the episode by Clark so she didn't mind their presence the least little bit.

I don't watch enough network TV to know what goes on there. I generally have news on all day and in the evenings I switch to the history channel or Discovery.

Stands to reason. Kal-El's an illegal himself, after all.

He actually brought that up during the episode, first telling the illegal he was harboring that he "knew what it was like to be out of place" and that he was from "a lot farther away than Mexico", then later, to expose his mother's supposed hypocrisy because she falsified adoption papers for him, even though he was, as he put it, "an illegal immigrant".

Well, the good news is I didn't see any homersexuallity on the show. At least I don't think I did.

Yeah, I love that attitude. I was on a thread yesterday where some lib prosecutor didn't like some guy getting off for firing a gun near homes because the law had an exception for doing so near one's own home. She said he showed great disrespect for the LEO's because he didn't accord them sufficient honor when they kept citing him for the non-crime, even though previous citations had literally been thrown out of court. She said that the judge's reading of the law couldn't be right because she didn't like the logical implications. I pointed out how they want us to obey all gun laws, no matter whether they make sense or comply with the Constitution, but when THEY don't like the law, then we have to get into a discussion about whether it's a good law or not.

...even though he was, as he put it, "an illegal immigrant".

He's just leaping the tall buildings in a single bound that Americans won't.

We are actually catching up on DVD because we stopped watching it a while back. Don't tell me bad things. I don't want to be forced to stop watching. Tom Welling is beautiful.

My daughter and I discussed that while we watched. Their "illegal" looked american, and spoke almost perfect english. He was only here to "see" his mother, who HAD to leave him along a couple years earlier because his FATHER left him and she needed to make money.

We only met his mother near the end of the show. We don't KNOW that she was an illegal immigrant or not, but we think she was, and she also spoke english, but not as well as the boy.

The boy said he learned english watching TV. That's funny because where I live I'm learning SPANISH watching TV and shopping at WalMart.

The poor illegals (the police called them "undocumented", which is nonsense because they were CLEARLY documented as I saw them on my screen, the were simply here illegally) were "slaves" on a farm, where the evil master would kill them if they tried to escape (wasn't this the plot to "Mr. Myjestic"?

In the end, it is suggested that all the poor illegals will be given amnesty, money is donated to provide for them, etc. etc..

So yes, it was all about how they were just doing the jobs we wouldn't do, and were really nice people who we should care about.

Clark's mother was going to turn the boy in, but Clark gave her a speech about how HE was an illegal immigrant. My daughter and I laughed about that one, pointing out that while he certainly SHOULD be deported, we'd have a problem because first, we don't have the technology to send him home, and second, his home was of course destroyed so there's no place to send him.

We decided that if Mexico was hit by an asteroid, we wouldn't want to force the refugees to go back.

You're not looking close enough. Everyone knows that Clark and Lex are buring with true luv for each other.

And I wish that I was joking, but there are a large group of fans who think this.
