I guess we'll never have movie stories which compare number of tickets sold instead of dollars. When movies are years apart, box office income is difficult to compare.

Over at Box Office Mojo they have statistics that show actual tickets sold as well as inflation-adjusted totals. The all time top three after adjustments are "Gone with the Wind", "Star Wars", and "Sound of Music"

Thax, it's already on my bookmark. When you read the weekly box office reports, they almost never adjust for inflation or refer to ticket sales.
