While he was recovering in the hospital, Karch received visits and calls from parents and students threatening him with physical harm

Visit and threaten one of my kids while they're in the hospital and you'll be getting your own room as well.

A public flogging, and perhaps a few days in the pillory seems appropriate for the mutts threatening this young man.

Traditions are important. At UGA, they ring the bell at the chapel.

Don't you know that rah rah rites are sacred? What's a kid's leg in the face of a pep rally tradition?

Kind of reminds me of the Texas A&M bonfire tragedy of 1999. There were no death threats, but a lot of Aggies and alums wanted the tradition to continue even though 12 students lost their lives when the logs collapsed. For some, tradition outweighs everything.

For the type of people with nothing between their ears but air it seems they value football tradition more than the well being of their students, pretty pathetic.

And how does the importance of tradition (firing the cannon in this case) justify this kid getting death threats?

Spectator sports are the opiate of the masses.

These people might just be one nutcase harassing the kid. It's still sickening that there are so many idiots in this world.

AAAh Washington, believe it was named for our first President, how soon they forget, especially when you allow Oregon to be your mentor. Of course with ample apologies to freepers forced to live in those two states. Loved, Spokaloo, but in less than one year the AF said go so I went, chose Spokane again, but less than a year later the AF said go, I went, but not before I took it as a sign that I'd better not come back.

Just FYI, most of the families of the Aggies who were killed, wanted the tradition to continue.

I missed the part about visitors threatening him. My mistake. Why haven't the visitors that threatened him been arrested?

The school should IMMEDIATELY suspend the use of the canon until an investigation and RCA is performed and the proper measures imployed to prevent another such accident.
