You know, regardless of Beth's personality, politics, decision-making in having a child participating in a trip, or any other characteristic: If my child was lost, hurt or killed I would hope to be able to exhibit half the relentless backbone she has exhibited on her child's behalf. Elements of style aside, you better be able to fight for your own.
