Duke Prof. Quits Committees in Protest

A Duke University professor resigned from her committee assignments, saying she was upset by the administration's decision to invite two lacrosse players accused of sexual assault back to campus.

"The decision by the university to readmit the students, especially just before a critical judicial decision on the case, is a clear use of corporate power, and a breach, I think, of ethical citizenship," Karla Holloway, an English professor and former dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, wrote to Duke's black faculty caucus.

"Despite our judgments about the prosecutor's own lack of principled conduct, it is not ours to become the judge or subvert the process," she wrote.

Earlier this month, officials at Duke said charged lacrosse players Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann could return to school as students in good standing. They were suspended last year after a woman hired to perform as a stripper at a lacrosse team party accused them of rape and sexual assault. A third player, Dave Evans, graduated the day before he was indicted.

. . . Holloway was one of 88 faculty members at Duke who endorsed an ad last April in the campus newspaper that included anonymous quotes from students discussing racism and sexual assault on Duke's campus. She said she receives angry, racist e-mails attacking her for being among the school's critics.

I read this yesterday. Curious, I went to the Duke University English major website. I was not the least impressed with what they teach their majors. It's really a shame that our top universities have substituted PC courses for courses whose sole objective is to teach the discipline.

I am surprised that there is a pic of this lady smiling.

My word, look at her publications, she must be miserable.

"Hi, I'm Prof. Karla Holloway, and I'm here to help! No, really I am! And I'm really, really ethical, too!"

If she were really principled, she'd simply quit her job altogether.

Her entire profile is race, race, race. I don't think she could get a job anywhere but in the Guilt Department of a US university.

We have our own at U.Va. Last year they were the key backers of an attempt to force President Casteen to adopt a "living wage" (i.e. raise wages by ~30% annually).

This is why I stay in the Engineering School. The folks here actually spend their time productively.

Well, if you look at her profile, she's already cut her office hour"s" to one hour a week.

She's almost there.

What a joke -- if those publications make someone worthy of tenure in the Dept. of English Literature at a supposedly "elite" university then academia is in even worse condition than we'd thought..... what does this charlatan actually know about English Literature????

I wonder how fast she would scream if she were accused of a crime and then suspended by Duke until after her trial.

If hating white people can be considered an agenda, then yeah, I'd agree.

"African American Cultural Studies"

It's not like she's a real professor. Every position she vacates will be enriched by her absence.
