U2/Green Day video: "The Saints Are Coming" (Could this possibly be pro-military?!)
YouTube ^

My son had been on me for a while to watch this video... I love U2, and loved the song when I first heard it, but I'm not really appreciative of Green Day's message and politics (obviously), so I avoided it for a while.
That said, I was pretty blown away by this video, and can't believe Green Day had anything to do with it, unless I'm just retarded and missing something?
Watch it here.

I don't even have to look at it to know that if Green Day's involved, it's making fun of pro-defense Stupid Americans like you and me.

I don't know what it's trying to say. Probably because the authors are brain dead.
There is a house in New Orleans,
they call the rising sun,(or Super Dome)
It's been the ruin of many a poor boy,
and God, I know I'm one.
Verse 1
I cried to my daddy on the telephone,
how long now?
Until the clouds unroll and you come down,
the line went.
But the shadows still remain since your descent,
your descent.
Verse 2
I cried to my daddy on the telephone,
how long now?
Until the clouds unroll and you come home,
the line went.
But the shadows still remain since your descent,
your descent.
Lo-Cha-Hey!
Chorus 1
The saints are coming, the saints are coming.
I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply.
The saints are coming, the saints are coming.
I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply.
Verse 3
A drowning sorrow floods the deepest grief,
how long now?
Until the weather change condemns belief,
how long now?
When the night watchman lets in the thief,
what's wrong now?
Boom! Cha! Hey!
Chorus 2
The saints are coming, the saints are coming
I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply.
The saints are coming, the saints are coming
I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply.
I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply.
I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply.

You need to watch it again. Most of the footage was fake. It's a statement that we should bring all the troops home and concentrate on helping "victims" in the United States rather than being in Iraq.
About as leftist as possible.

The only Federal, State, or Local agency that didn't totally abdicate its responsibility during the Katrina disaster was the US Coast Guard. I would have liked to have seen that acknowledged in the video.
The video itself is a criticism of the Bush administration and its priorities, suggesting that it would have been of more benefit to America to put ground troops in New Orleans rather than in Iraq.

*sigh* It's pretty subtle. My radar started going off when they showed Katrina victims. But when they showed those headlines about troops redeployed from Iraq I never remembered that active military was used in New Orleans. And I never recalled seeing that footage of B-2 like airplanes doing massive food drops. The clincher was at the end when the sign said "Not as seen on TV" or something like that.
To: AnnaZ
'Fraid so. We have a better shot at Harry Belafonte or Rage Against the Machine making a pro-defense video.
Bet it pi$$es off Zach de la Rocha that his stuff is fave music to crusade by in the ME.

Meh. The video itself is critical of the administration, not the troops. You get to keep your conservative cred.

My radar went off as well in the beginning, however I knew the song was done as a Katrina fundraiser to begin with... and folks were rescued off of buildings (I knew one who was), so I had some hope...

Don't be so hard on yourself. These jerks try to pretend that they care because they want to indoctrinate the kids that listen to their music.
Luckily for me, my teenager is not amused by their antics. She despises Green Day and had nothing but disdain for their "When September Ends" video.
I tease her about going to college soon and becoming liberal, but she continues to promise me that she will remain conservative. One of her teachers called my office yesterday complaining that she is too opinionated and that she offended another student in a Pro-life vs. Pro-Choice argument. This was in journalism class. My daughter was the pro-life side of the argument. When he told me that, I couldn't have been prouder. I told him if he gave her detention for it, it would only make me prouder. She had already told me about the argument, and she had told me she didn't care if she got detention, she was tired of all the girls talking about abortion being the easy way out of pregnancy.
So, to make a long (sorry) story short, these stupid tactics aren't working on all our kids.

Green Day just sucks....
I was a big fan of U2, but then 1987 ended and suddenly I thought that Bono was just a little too full of himself.
I saw an interview with him recently talking about how her wrote "Bullet the Blue Sky" about a "farmers collective" he was supporting in Central America. He was there during an air strike he claims.
Why do millionaire rock stars all seem to adore communism?

Don't be so hard on yourself. These jerks try to pretend that they care because they want to indoctrinate the kids that listen to their music.Which is why, normally, my son doesn't listen to Green Day. That said, fortunately in this tune, all the lefty crap is so garbled one can't make out the lyrics anyway.

Why do millionaire rock stars all seem to adore communism?Actually, if you read Bono's interview book, he seems to have learned and grown since then. He's willing to accept new information, it seems, and admits where he's been wrong. He's not a total write-off (although there are still a couple of areas where he could use a little lesson or two...)
