VANITY: Anybody else have Arabic(?) interference on radio or phone?
my radio; acquaintence's phone

Too weird to be coincidence. This afternoon while listening to the radio, the broadcast was interrupted by a trasmission of someone speaking a foreign language. My thought, 'I don't think that's quite Spanish. Is that Arabic?' Went back to work around the house and forgot about it.
This evening, an acquaintence called to tell me about something odd that happened to them. They made a phone call, and when the other party picked up and said hello, the call was interrupted by someone speaking in a foreign language. "I didn't think it quite sounded like Spanish. I don't know if it was Arabic or what," they told me. I had never told them of my experience earlier in the day.
Has anyone else had this experience recently?
About a month ago, a friend and I were on the phone, each of us on a land line, and suddenly a fax machine was on the line. We could still hear each other, and we could both hear the fax squeal. Neither of us owns a fax machine.
In this day of ever-increasing use of phones, satellite transmissions, etc., I suppose stuff like this happens, but to have two completely distinct incidents today, both of which sounded like they might be in Arabic, is a bit disturbing.

You've probably been wiretapped by the NSA, or some other nefarious government agency.
I suggest in the future, when on the phone, you only speak in code.
Pig Latin should do it.

It is called speaking in tongues, and happens to highly spiritual people on attaining a certain blood level, normally below 86 proof.

Could be you have a radio hack operating in the 10 (CB) or 11 meter (Ham) band while using an illegal linear amplifier. Some of them get very powerful...up to 5000 watts or better. When they transit at that power, it'll splash all over the band and can interfere with television and radio reception over quite an area.
The hobby is very popular among Portugese or Brazilian folks (who speak Portugese).
Portugese sounds a bit Spanish but can be confused for Arabic to an untrained ear.

All your phone, radio and fax belong to us?
Seriesly, though, I've not had this happen yet. No idea what it could be.

While I am enjoying the humorous responses, I mostly appreciate your serious reply. It gives a concrete explanation of what can cause these things. I enjoyed learning something new. Thanks!

This happened in Las Vegas about....2 years ago?
Someone was picking up an Arabic phone call on their cell phone.
I don't think the FBI took him too seriously.

Are all those Portugese terrorists acting up again?
To: Pirate21
Might be Pennsylvania Dutch. Do you live near an Amish community there? No telling what they are up to nowadays, wouldn't put it past them to jam cell phones and radios.

Wish I could post the pic of the bunny with a pancake on it's head, because I have no idea what you are talking about.

Any 'Muhammeds' in your neighborhood? Husseins?
Am guessing some of these people - wherever they are - might be using more than the 'average' cell phone. . .electronics. . .night vision goggles. . .arms.
Oh well, could get carried away here; back to the problem - i.e. Arabic phone conversations - on your line. . .keep us posted!
