Radio Stations Harmonize On Classical Music (Wash DC)
Washington Post ^ | 1/23/07 | Paul Farhi

Washington radio station WGMS dropped the music of Mozart and Tchaikovsky yesterday after nearly six decades and replaced its classical format with tunes by Cheap Trick, Elton John and the Bee Gees in a two-part shake-up.

Last night, WETA dropped its news and talk programming and became a classical station again in a coordinated move with Bonneville International Corp., which owns WGMS (103.9 and 104.1 FM). WETA (90.9 FM) was a classical station for 35 years until dropping the format in February 2005.

But Bonneville is entering a highly competitive segment of the radio market. Its new station replacing WGMS, called "George 104" (WXGG-FM), will program music from 1970s and '80s artists such as James Taylor, Foreigner and AC/DC, with a smattering of more recent recordings. WBIG (100.3 FM) and WARW (94.7 FM) have similar formats.

Bonneville said it will air George 104 without commercials for its first 104 days to try to establish the station among listeners.

from a post on radio-info.com: "The final audio of 'GMS only said it was "Tears Of Grief (Choral)" from Bach's St. Matthews Passion while saying "It is with tears of grief that we leave the Washington airwaves." (from the Washington Post article) Before going into a happy choral to announce the move to WETA 90.0 FM and going into a pause then George 104's intro. They didn't mention "Tears of Grief's" CD or version, unless it Choral is the version name. But it did not mention the CD."

Dear MountainFlower,

Thanks!

I saw Mr. Brownback speak at the March yesterday. I've been following him for a little while, now. I would vote for Mr. Brownback if he were the nominee. In a heartbeat.

But I also like Mr. Hunter.

"are you a part of the pro-life ping list?"

There are several pro-life ping lists, and I'm on most of them, I think.

"have been involved in the issue quite heavily in the past year...to date..."

That's really wonderful.

"ever heard of Bound 4 Life?"

No, tell me more.

Thanks,

Brownback announced on Saturday! He could use your support / help I am sure! If you go to the website, I think you can get hooked-up with them. HOW COOL you were at the March!! I am too far away to get there, with the financial issues.

We had a few events here in SD. I went to one where I live...we had a service, heard an impressive speech by a DR. who used to perform abortions, and is now saved! (Same DR was one who did several TV advertisements for the Pro-Life side during the election.) She talked about the burden resting on the church to love those who are performing the abortions and pray for them to come to Christ, as well as to love those who are post-abortive and need to be healed through the love of Christ. (She said it was the prayers of a nun, and others for 12 years that were answered, when God reached her heart.) It was awesome!! Then we walked to the Planned Parenthood (only one is SD) prayed there, and returned to the church.

bound4life.com

the story is very interesting on how they got started in DC...the story of Lou Engle!! They have been praying for a number of years in front of the Supreme Court, and in their office located where they can look right out on the the Supreme Court (SC)! His son had a dream about the LIFE TAPE (seen in the picture), and so they started using it. It kept things from getting violent on the steps of the SC when they were praying because then other people wouldn't engage them in conversation, it also stands for the silent screams of the unborn.

They were looking for a new place to work from to be able to assist others in the fight to end abortion and suddenly a year ago they were flooded with information about SD...they then heard about our upcoming vote on a bill to end abortion in SD and felt led to come assist SD. They started coming out here the beginning of the summer...the entire story of SD this past year is amazing!!

They have chapters now in different states. I believe they will be headed to GA, if they aren't there already, praying there for victory in that state for their law to be passed.

God was moving people all over the world! In some cases they were moved by God to physically MOVE here to Sioux Falls. There were people in over 150 countries that were praying for our state and the election. Different organizations came from all over the US to be here in SD working for the cause.

Though the law did not pass here, the margin was closer than ever was anticipated. The greatest thing was the turn of peoples hearts! Since the election, the clinic has not been open on Saturdays! They have been advertising for help - 4 positions...so I can only believe that all our prayers have started an effect on some of the workers there, and they can no longer do that kind of work and live with it.

For a long time this summer, until election there were prayer sieges daily. Since the election they have gone back to only Saturdays from 11am-1pm. People meet and pray with the LIFE TAPE on. (We call it meeting at the wall, like a prayer wall.) Afterwards we share if the Lord has spoken anything to our hearts, and have communion. It has brought the body of Christ together, across denominational lines.

Most recently, since I lost my job 2 weeks ago, one of the siegers told me that God had laid it on his heart to be there M-F for an hour. I said I would be glad to do the same. I have been going in the morning and he is going in the afternoons. So not only is someone there on Saturday, standing in the authority of Christ, praying over it, but now also M-F!

The hardest part for me is when some people come out at the same time we are there (this happened during the summer) with posters of the gore! They think it is a reality check and will wake people up. It doesn't! All it does is increase the pain of those who have already had an abortion, or those like me, who have lost an infant. These people need love and hear that there is an alternative, not hear condemnation. For 33 yrs the condemnation has not worked!! Prayer will work on the front lines, with political changes happening as a result... Nothing will change in the physical realm without the change in the spiritual one.

The whole country is covered with the spirit of deceit about abortion. It is a stronghold of the enemy. The only way the blanket of deceit will be lifted is by the truth being told...the testimonies of those who have aborted, telling their stories..in the telling their healing will come, and the truth will dispell the deceit.

The church must also repent of having turned her back on the innocent blood, using the crutch of "church and state" issue, and turning their backs on those who have aborted which has increased their pain, shame and guilt.

Prayers of God's children will move mountains!!

"See you at the wall!!" as we say!

Sorry, I know this was a classical music ping! Pro-Life is my passion. ::shy smile::
