INDIANAPOLIS -- A man accused of running over the foot of a woman who tried to save a parking space before the Colts' AFC championship game says his vehicle never touched her.
Crystal Lockaby, 25, of Greenwood, said she was standing in an open parking space near the RCA Dome on Sunday, waiting for her boyfriend to bring their car around, when Kenneth Jones pulled his 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer into the spot, according to a police report.
Lockaby told police she threw her hands up motioning him to stop. She said Jones pulled forward, bumping her several times and running over her foot to take the space, according to police.
Lockaby was taken to the hospital with foot and ankle injuries, police said. Police were investigating, although no charges had been filed Tuesday.
Jones told 6News on Tuesday that the vehicle didn't touch her.
"It just never happened," Jones told 6News' Tanya Spencer by telephone. "Why she's doing it, I don't know."
Jones acknowledged that he moved into the space and that Lockaby was standing in it.
"She was trying to save a parking spot for a car that was somewhere else, and basically I told her that if you don't have a car, you don't have a parking space," Jones said. "I told her to get out of the way, which she finally did."
Police towed Jones' truck Sunday. He picked the vehicle up Monday after he spoke with a detective, according to police.
Indianapolis police Sgt. Matt Mount said standing in a parking spot to save it for a vehicle is not allowed.
"You're blocking traffic. You're creating a hazard," Mount said.
Attempts by 6News to reach Lockaby for comment were not successful.
What happens when two idiots want to occupy the same space at the same time?
I'm on his side. I can't stand that kind of nonsense. Like "saving" the choice row in a theater when the people aren't even there yet.
I wonder why they towed his vehicle (an evil SUV) and did nothing about her. So far, this is just a "he said, she said"
Foot and leg injuries indeed. IF he ran over her foot, ok, but you mean to tell me she stood there while his SUV hit her hard enough to cause leg injuries???
Someone needs running over, i think!
/s
What did Shep do? I missed that.
And if it is not allowed, why did they tow his vehicle?
Striking pedestrians is not allowed either.
That is what I don't get.
I got that, but what was the proof other than her testimony? There is mention of taken to the hospital, but no mention of any sustained injury or charges.
If he had kicked her, I guess they would have impounded his shoes, LOL.
Of course, if she was smart she would just call him a jerk and then wait and key his car.
Wow they towed him??!! She must have made a pretty convincing case to the police to make them tow someone's car out of there. Either that or she was a turbo-hottie and the cops were like...anything you say ma'am.
Try to imagine her telling them the story...I can't see a cop taking someone seriously who was carrying on about losing a parking spot they were trying to save. There's no report of injury so she can't prove she was run over.
Where was the boyfriend while all this was going on, getting beer? Hey hon, stand in this spot and fend off thousands of angry football fans while I go get us a sixer of Coors Light.
Nice.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out she's lying. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he hit with his car. Such is America, 2007.
But striking idiots is permitted under any circumstances.
So, did this guy miss the game? Women.... sheesh!
If standing in a space is not allowed, why did they tow his car? I would understand if they arrested him for assault, but what did his car do wrong, and what gave them the right to tow it out of a legal space he paid for?
My guess is they were in another row, SAW the space, and he had her jump out to run to the space while he drove around.
But everybody knows the space always goes to the person lucky enough to get their car there first. This is like cutting in front of people in line.
However, the boyfriend should have been close, so you wonder why he didn't get their and threaten to beat the guy up for hitting her. maybe he had a wimpy car or something. Or maybe he found another space on the way and parked, and was walking to get her.
A serious question -- if a protestor was blocking your way on the road, and refused to get out of the way, how many people here would nudge them with their car to try to "convince" them to stop blocking the road?
Geez, this is what my grampa was famous for. A hero to my mom.
"But everybody knows the space always goes to the person lucky enough to get their car there first. This is like cutting in front of people in line."
How is that so? After all, oftentimes this is something done in frustration after spending too long circling and not getting anything.
Oftentimes the person you see as "at fault" was ACTUALLY there LONGER than the person who seems OK. In the great big picture, it's often justified.
This is alot like me an my frustration with multi-line bank drive-thrus which don't make people file out from a single line. You have to choose 1, or so it seems. When you try to insist on "1st come, 1st served" by creating a single line to feed the multi-lines, someone ALWAYS gets huffy and drives around to choose some line. As a result, and whether one created a single line or not and just chose a line, one gets screwed as the person who was in the bank area LAST gets to go to the teller FIRST. That is not justice, in my book!
Hospital tests would be evidence, as would any DNA, fibers, or damage to the SUV. Lack of those things could be used by the SUV driver. Evidence works both ways. They are both idiots. The police just collect evidence. The courts decide who is the bigger idiot.
