We're not talking about what's moral and immoral. We're talking about what the government should prosecute or not prosecute. Contrary to what the Church has been teaching us in the past few years, man's laws are not made to govern man's behavior (God's laws, in fact, are for this purpose). Man's laws are intended to prevent infringement of the rights of one person by another party. That's a subtle but critically important difference.

What the girls did was clearly wrong; but it's not the place of the government to do anything about it in this case because no one's rights was violated nor was there any real criminal intent on their part to do so. The foolishness of their actions should be dealt with by their parents, not Uncle Sam.

I was born in 81 and *I* miss the country I grew up in. I had a front row seat to watch PCness come to full fruition. PCness took God out of public life, and the result is a sadistic, angry, unforgiving, selfish society, a result which shouldn't even slightly surprise anybody.

We concur in some ways. God's laws, if taught and obeyed, intrinsically motivate us to honor and defend the rights of others, particularly the oppressed. (Proverbs 31:8-10)

Man's laws are either human, imperfect attempts in good faith to make sure everyone knows the rules, even if they spurn God's laws intrinsically--or are evil, diabolical attempts in bad faith to control those who DO honor God's laws.

My own original point was, if these girls had not been talking foolishness this wouldn't be an issue.

No, this should not be prosecuted. But wisdom says give it a little time and if there are no further problems, evacuate the records, perhaps at their age of majority. I'd bet they have learned their lesson well. Meanwhile, I'd like them all to get to a solid Southern Baptist or Calvary Chapel Church and Sunday School regularly, they might learn about real character there (but I'd not introduce legislation to force them to go).

Indeed. The problem is that such an event continues to follow you through life, even though the record is expunged. Such expungements don't mean as much as they are made to sound like they do. If they are convicted of any offense, regardless of what happens after that, the conviction will trouble them in their careers their whole lives.
