CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Six girls at a rural high school were charged with homicide conspiracy after their principal found a list of 300 names and officials discovered online postings suggesting they kill people, authorities said Thursday.
School officials said the list, discovered in a classroom trash can, mostly named students and faculty members but also included Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey and the Energizer bunny.
Sequatchie County High School Principal Tommy Layne said that he initially considered it a joke, but that authorities then found the ninth-graders' online MySpace pages and postings that included the word "kill."

And the problem with this is?
'Bout time somebody put a hit on that damn bunny.
This mass murder brought to you in part by Duracell.
See, from the headline I thought the Energizer Bunny was part of the plot to kill people, not one of the victims.
I've always thought the bunny was unstable, and could lash out at a moment's notice. He was too competitive.
Sorry.. couldn't help it... the Grosse Pointe Blank reference...
I thought peanut farmer Carter did that when he was in office.
Okay, this is one where the application of the legal doctrine of 'true threats' needs to be applied.
No reasonable speaker, hearer, or neutral party (there, I covered all the interpretations of the doctrine various Courts of Appeals have enunciated) would regard a list prefaced "I want to kill" that includes the Energizer Bunny and various irritiating Hollywood types as representing an actual threat of homocide against the people listed.
Another example of "Zero Tolerance = Zero Common Sense".
Agreed, this is simply moronic. And I love the commentary in the article from the other students of being terrified for their lives! "They're gonna whack the Energizer Bunny and then I'm next!!!"
Granted. I think it's obvious, even from here, that these girls weren't really going to do anything. Of course, with a charge like this on their records, these girls will likely never get a job that pays more than minimum wage, if that. I hope that the taxpayers and the 'punish everyone' crowd are thinking about that when they pay their taxes for the welfare they'll need to make the rent payments on their cheapy apartments they live in.
Seriously now. When I was a kid we sang his to the tune of 'Battle Hymn of the Republic':
Glory, glory hallelujah!
Teacher hit me with a ruler.
Hid behind the door
With a loaded .44
And she ain't teaching no more.
And then we would all laugh and giggle. Even the teachers didn't think of that as a serious threat.
And that's why we have to hope they can get decent lawyers, either with parents' money or pro bono, who will push the case not only to get criminal charges dropped, but all disciplinary record of the 'incident' expunged because there was, in fact, not only under common-sense judgement, but under prevailing law, no threat made.
What kind of school Nazis go looking through the classroom trash can?
Can't we at least get a picture of the Energizer bunny with a pancake on it's head?
The energizer bunny is one of Barney's gang.
Ya think! LOL!
The problem is they didn't git-r-done.
Clearly this was not a real threat...but considering all the TALK about 'character education' in public schools, you'd think that the girls might have known to consider THIS:
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. -- Ephesians 4:29
Which is why I often refrain from saying or posting a snide remark that may come to mind! ;^)
