Clearly this was not a real threat...but considering all the TALK about 'character education' in public schools, you'd think that the girls might have known to consider THIS:

We're not talking about what's moral and immoral. We're talking about what the government should prosecute or not prosecute. Contrary to what the Church has been teaching us in the past few years, man's laws are not made to govern man's behavior (God's laws, in fact, are for this purpose). Man's laws are intended to prevent infringement of the rights of one person by another party. That's a subtle but critically important difference.

What the girls did was clearly wrong; but it's not the place of the government to do anything about it in this case because no one's rights was violated nor was there any real criminal intent on their part to do so. The foolishness of their actions should be dealt with by their parents, not Uncle Sam.
