Who is the more dominant performer?

Around the ESPN.com watercooler, it's a debate that sees more consternation than "Tastes great" versus "Less filling": Who is the more dominant performer, Tiger Woods or Roger Federer?

Each stated his case with another stunning victory on Sunday, as Woods claimed the Buick Invitational for his seventh consecutive PGA Tour victory and Federer notched the Australian Open for his third straight Grand Slam title.

If anything, the two players only added fuel to the fire with their most recent wins. Golf editor Jason Sobel and frequent tennis contributor Matt Wilansky debate which player is the most dominant athlete in this edition of Alternate Shot.

UH Tiger is the better golfer Federer the better tennis player. Tiger takes weeks off at a time and Federer does not. You decide.

It's Tiger, easy.
Not only has Tiger won ALL the 4 slams in 12 months for a "Tiger Slam", he was won every single grand slam at least twice.
Federer hasn't even come close to wining the French Open.
Lemme know when Federer actually wins all 4 slams, let alone win them in 12 months.

I would hate to see either one denigrated. The sports are so different. Roger is like a boxer who beats an opponent into submission. His athletic skills combine with his personal dominance of an opponent. While Tiger's excellence may intimidate and depress his opposition, he is still essentially "fighting" himself and the golf course.

Both are athletes the like of which has seldom been seen before.

They both take time off between tournaments, but your "Tiger is the better golfer Federer the better tennis player" is true, and rather funny too.

"Roger is like a boxer who beats an opponent into submission"

Except the French Open, the 4th slam, where Roger regularly gets beaten into submission by Nadal.
Way I see it, unless Roger wins all the 4 slams, and then wins them all in 12 months like Tiger did, he is not on the same level as Tiger.

I agree totally.

I could never pick between the two. Both their performances and their grace on and off "the playing field" are beyond excellent.

Tiger for now, but if Roger keeps it up for 2-3 more years, and sets some all-time records I might say Federer.

Honorable mention to soon to be Super Bowl champ, Peyton Manning.

The way I see it you might want to check that vision.
