Boy ........... this really is a tough one.Not at all. From a strictly sports standpoint Federer has it all over Woods. Woods couldn't last ten minutes against any 5.0 player whereas even I can eventually get the ball in the hole.

One chases and hits a ball traveling at about 80 miles an hour and the other stands over a ball laying the in grass. There is simply is not comparison. One relies on hand-eye coordination and the other on... well... a ball laying still in the grass.

I was really upset today because of this. I think since we all saw him get hurt live, we have a personal involvement in his recovery. It's just very sad. He was a beautiful horse.

The French Open... hmmmm...
Like an NFL game in which the faster opponent isn't allowed to run fast...
like a MLB game in which the pitcher with the fastest pitches isn't allowed to throw it as fast as he can...
like an NHL game in which the fastest skaters aren't allowed to skate their fastest...
like an NBA game in which the highest jumpers are prevented from jumping high...
the French Open is a bogus grand slam event. It handicaps the slower, less agile players and brings them up a level. But I still dunno who's more dominant.

I could not believe the news and, for me, words do not suffice.
There is a hole in all of us who cared.
Prayers and thoughts from here to all innocent and good animals.
Barbaro .............. you are loved. Enjoy heaven.

Winning successive tournaments in golf (medal play) is in my estimation more difficult. A single bad swing can cause two to three stroke swings. This happened at the Buick Open on Sunday. Also the match is played against at least 72 competitors, any one of which can get hot and shoot low numbers.
In tennis, a bad swing costs a point and unless it is match point, there will be numerous opportunities to overcome the mistake. Also, you play matches against one competitor at a time so the risk of a hot player is reduced.
They are both great athletes. Make no mistake, Tiger is a world class athlete.

"The last desperate resort of any poster is to call an American a Canadian"
Now that, coming from a guy that lobbed nasty, unsubstantiated, racist smears at Serena Williams, is simply laughable.
"There's no question that womens' tennis and mens' tennis are two different games"
That's like saying kids soccer is different from adults soccer.
Women's sports of every kind is different from men's sports of the same kind. That is new how?
That is why we have women's sports and men's sports seperate at the Olympics. Just because women are in general not as physically strong as men, doesn't make it any easier for women to beat other women.
Get back to me when you have anything that makes any sense to say will ya?
"This stark difference between men and women explains why it's so difficult for male players to dominate all four Grand Slam tournaments."
Yeah?
Is that why no woman has been able to win the grand slam in tennis in the same calender year since Steffi Graf?
In fact only Serena has even won all 4 slams since Steffi.
If it's so easy to dominate in women's tennis, how come other women haven't won the grand slam in calander year after Steffi?

"the French Open is a bogus grand slam event. It handicaps the slower, less agile players and brings them up a level"
Since you have no idea what you are talking about, I am not even going to take you seriously.
Nadal has dominated the French Open recently and beaten Federer everytime at the FO.
Now anyone who thinks Nadal (one of the toughest, fittest players on the ATP circuit) is a "slower, less agile" player either does not know Nadal, or is smoking crack.
Take your pick.
As to the French Open not being a "real slam", sounds like sour grapes to me. It's like "Hey, I can't in, and get clobbered every time at the French Open, so it's a bogus slam".
In reality, The French Open is every bit as much a grand slam as the US Open or Australian Open, and what you have here is a bogus argument.
To: period end of story
"It doesn't prove anything of the sort."
It sure does.
Numbers don't lie.
"One cannot expect a tennis player to run around the court once he hits around 35."
Precisely my point.
"If Federer ends up with the most grand slams ever, the case for him will be much stronger."
So long as Tiger doesn't end up with more slams than anyone ever as well. Right now, I am going to go for Tiger eclipsing Jack Nicklaus's record by the end of his carrier, and ending up with more golf slams than anyone else in history.
To: ShawTaylor
Sorry you're so offended ShawTaylor. But Nadal isn't as fast or agile as Federer. On a slower surface, Federer's speed is taken away from him - and his shots aren't as fast either.
That's why players who don't hit as fast or as hard are put on the same level as other faster players. The clay minimizes and/or eliminates speed as a factor. It seems clear that you reject this obvious characteristic of clay. Fine, but you are then left to explain Federer's domination of Nadal (and everyone else) on fast surfaces. Go ahead - or are you smoking crack or do you not know Federer? I'm not even going to take you seriously until you can defend your preposterous assertions.
BTW, the tone of this post in to match your tone only. I don't really feel much at all about the issue - but I do find it amusing that you do. It's obvious that clay is sloooooow compared to other surfaces.

Tiger could probably beat you blindfold.

Tiger could probably beat you blindfold.I find it interesting that you personalize this. I did not post to you yet you feel the need to attack me. Was my post to beyond the sea too much for you to take?
