In the FWIW category...

I was a little surprised to see here, as in so many other publications that receive so much Microsoft ad money, a pretty strong suggestion that Mac and the new Leopard might be much better for non-gamers than Vista.

I thought the reasons to wait for Vista SP1 and to see Leopard was pretty good advice for people considering new PCs.

It's good advise to ALWAYS wait for the first service pack on Windows products.

I have no problem with those who want t o spend more on Apple computers, they are wonderful machines and often deserving of the premium cost, if you can easily afford that luxury then congratulations. The problem you're creating for yourself is trying to infer those that prefer to buy the new Windows instead are some sort of inbred cowpoke idiots, which isn't always the case. FYI most people in the US run Windows, have for over a decade, and don't appreciate being insulted over what was logically or financially the right decision for them.

This isn't some lame half baked foreign product like Linux that's constantly rammed down our throat, this is the US defacto standard that most people already have and use. If the new version fails it will fail under it's own weight, we've already seen these hit pieces before back when Windows XP was released, and while I don't really care since it's good to keep Microsoft on their toes, I doubt this time next year Apple will have doubled their market share. If they do, great, but it still won't mean those that bought Vista necessarily made the wrong choice.

Vista looks a lot like OSX and even helps users run without local admin, if you're so sure Apple is better, then logically Microsoft is improving, and deserves praise not criticsm, immitation is after all the sincerest form of flattery. As I said at least it's not some strange foreign clone most can't even pronounce being given away for free with the intent to put US companies like Apple out of business. If you want to gripe about operating systems why don't you join me and start there.
