IIRC, gun-toting Switzer has one SB win. His linemen that year averaged something like 330+ lbs. O'Donnell got worked that game.

Okay.

The point still remains: Dallas hasn't played a Superbowl since Switzer.

He was also head coach of the Broncos for one year.

The only reason he didn't get the job is that he told Jones his coaching appointments were BS

Tuner and Garrett are friends. What other coaches would he say this about? Cam? Tony S?

Jones was ONLY looking for a lapboy...he got 'em.

Here's a thought, Mr. Jones....WHY DON'T YOU JUST COACH THE TEAM YOURSELF AND STOP THE MADNESS..????

Turner and Garrett are indeed friends. That's totally meaningless. The only reason Turner wasn't hired is because he told Jones that Garrett isn't ready to be an offensive coordinator, and I'd say Turner knows a thing or two about running an offense.

Upon hearing this, Coach Jones got offended that Turner might not meekly say "yes sir" to his judgments from on high, and then went and hired the guy who WOULD say "yes sir," one Wade Phillips.

The only reason he doesn't is because an NFL rule prohibits owners from coaching. That's why Al Davis stopped coaching, even though he regularly interferes with the head coach's decisions.

Jerry Jones is a younger Al Davis. The good news for Raiders fans is that Al Davis will die soon. The bad news for Cowboys fans is that Jerry Jones' ego won't allow him to sell the team until it wins a Super Bowl under his watch; meanwhile, the team is guaranteed to not win a Super Bowl under his watch.

The stuff I hear is Garrett will be good. Some speculation about if he is experienced enough to help Romo succeed. Others say if Tony Sparano stays, he could help Garrett learn the ropes.

I liked the Turner/Garrett combination - with their experience at the Ranch and their style, I think it could have been effective.
The whole situation of hiring the staff before the head coach seems a little odd. Even that kid at Oakland got to hire some of his coaches.

I also just read the Dallas receivers Coach Haley took another job.

I am stunned that after all of the rude things the Dallas haters said about, he's some how a role model.

Well, you can count me in the group that never liked him. ONLY because he coached against my beloved Packers.

However, you can also count me in the group that respected him. Because he made you coach and/or play your best to beat him.

Much the same as military commanders didn't like Erwin Rommel, but they had a lot of respect for him.

I sat in the stands from 1969 to 1982, nearly every home game. Landry was one of the greatest coaches in the game - end of story. Four people you don't speak ill of in my household - Reagan, Thatcher, Landry and my father.

Who I miss almost as much as Landry are Clint Murchison and Tex Shram.

Jerry Jones is an ass and has been since day one. At least his management and football skills are slightly better than the utterly incompetent Daniel Snyder.

Clint Murchison didn't pretend to know how to run or field a team - but he hired people who did.

You cannot argue with his success.

The keyword with Garrett is that he WILL be good. He's only been coaching for a couple of years. I don't care if Bill Parcells said that he's got "head coach written all over him," you don't go from a first-time QB coach to offensive coordinator after two years.

Besides, the problem with Garrett isn't that he's the OC. It's that he was made the OC by someone who is not the head coach. Hell, he was appointed OC prior to Jones even interviewing head coach candidates!

Coach Rat Salad (Todd Haley) indeed took a job at Arizona a couple of weeks ago. In the span of less than a month, that team's coaching went from what we thought they were (a little reference, there), to being absolutely loaded with genuinely bright offensive minds. If they can just solidify their offensive line, they're going to be the Saints of 2007.

I wouldn't call him an ass. He just has an ego that exceeds his accomplishments.

Snyder's problem is that he's willing to throw too much money at players simply because he's heard of them before. Joe Gibbs has done a decent job at restraining those tendencies, though.

What success? Discounting the tenure of Jimmy Johnson, who succeeded only due to the most lopsided trade in NFL history, what success has Jerry Jones met? Okay, fine, a shiny new stadium... but not much else.

The fact that we're even talking about the success of Jerry Jones speaks volumes about just how much control he exercises over the team. Contrast him with Robert Kraft and Wayne Huizenga, who are totally hands-off when it comes to football operations.

No, Snyder's problem is that he thinks he knows something about football. He doesn't.

So Jerry Jones made it happen over the objections of Jimmy Johnson (per Skip Baliss).

When was the last time the Dolphins won the Super Bowl???

He made a good decision to hire his college teammate, that much I give him credit for.

The last time the Dolphins won? Far too long ago. And totally irrelevant to the discussion at hand. I'm sorry, but just because my favorite team hasn't won a championship in some time does not render moot whatever points I may be making in this thread. If winning a recent championship is a requirement for opining, then only Colts, Steelers, and Patriots fans should be allowed to talk.

Point is, Jerry Jones is handicapping the ability of the head coach to do his job. And Cowboys fans can't see it, because you still think it's the early 1990s.

Which is what I was referring to. Snyder just pays millions of dollars for players he's heard of before.
